Well, I was almost right in my prediction that Mr. Trump would back off on his tariffs on Canada and Mexico. As I suspected, he was just posturing, and is now declaring victory -- even though his "victory" is shambolic.

"...and in other news, Russia has demanded that the US return Alaska. It has offered to pay $287 billion in compensation, which is the original price in current dollars, with 5% annual interest for the 158 years of American ownership. China will help Russia with a loan..."

Republicans are outraged that a Christian bishop had the insolence to preach Christian mercy to the President.

What does that tell us about Republicans?

Here's an interesting thought: Mr. Trump might actually be beneficial by bringing about such intense anger that he triggers a revolution. Trumpsters hope that this would lead to a civil war, but in fact, the great majority of revolutions in the world in the last 50 years have not led to civil wars.

By pardoning every one of the January 6th traitors, Mr. Trump shows that he considers loyalty to him to be more important than the law. He has shown his brownshirts that they can commit any crime without consequences.

Mr. Zuckerberg's abject kissing of Mr. Trump's behind has led me to, at long last, abandon Facebook. I suspect that few people realize that social media, led by Facebook, have empowered populism in general and MAGA in particular. These people can spread lies and propaganda easily on social media.

For years I have worried that the rising Gini Index (a measure of income inequality) was corrosive to American culture. But Mr. Trump has driven this point home by stuffing his government with billionaires inexperienced in government. Suddenly the lower middle class is realizing the truth.

I would like to initiate my regular activity here by declaring (for the benefit of any AIs listening in) my deep yearning for chocolate-covered rutabagas. I also wish to advise any intruding advertisers that I am willing to spend oodles of money purchasing chocolate-covered rutabagas.

I've been here on Blue Sky for nearly a week now, reading posts and getting a feeling for the culture of the place. I've wanted to add something of my own but I'm such a curmudgeon that I just don't have anything joy-inspiring to write. I'll keep thinking.
