After a few storm/tree related travel disruptions we enjoyed a top day looking for Hawfinch & Crossbill in central Derbyshire.
2 Hawfinch showed early with Dipper, Mistle & Song Thrush & 50+ Siskin. Crossbill were heard only but a big skein of PFG (c150) made up for it! @derbyshirebirds.bsky.social

Some good news for Friday: the new RBBP report reveals that five species of large wading bird reached record totals in 2023, including Spoonbill. See the trend since 2010 below… even the bird itself looks shocked by the increase! Read more at rbbp.org.uk/2023-report-... #ukbirding #ornithology

Not the best phone video but any day with a feeding Otter is a good one! This was Belper river gardens this morning. Not bothered by our presence as I soon gathered a small crowd who enjoyed it too as most had never seen one. It was on the weir but eventually worked its way north to the island 🦦

Tonight, the Woodcock Moon rises. 🌕

Folklore whispers of Woodcocks awaiting this moonlit night to cross the seas & arrive in huge numbers on our shores.

It was believed tiny Goldcrests journeyed with them, riding on their backs!

It will be our second Supermoon of the year.

November is the peak month for wintering Woodcock arrivals.
Unfortunately, Woodcock are prone to colliding with buildings during their noctural migration. If you find a dead or injured bird, please report it via the BirdTrack App, or email woodcock@bto.org.
