Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein is a feast for the eyes, the locations, the wardrobe, the props, it all works very well together to create something coherent and pleasing. The dialogue though has not had the same level of care. It is mostly ok with moments where it just becomes descriptive.

The Three by Sarah Lotz surprised me a bit. The story follows children that survived 4 different plane crashes that took place simultaneously in different spots of the globe. Soon enough people start questioning how the children survived and why. Doomsday cults pop up and things go downhill fast.

Watched Weapons and frankly it did not live up to the hype. It's a derivation of the Pied Piper of Hamelin story where a witch figure captures children and is told using a POV structure that shifts between a few characters. This could have been a good narrative tool but it ends up failing.

Random bluesky account posting photos of their short holidays in Portugal.

My internal dialogue: oh good... more tourists... God knows we need more of those...

Outpost by Adam Baker is a good zombie apocalypse novel. As the world ends the staff of an Arctic refinery are stuck on their platform. Tensions rise, plans are made and everyone wants a way out. But is there a world to go back to? The horror is well balanced and keeps the reader engaged. A fun read

Lisbon's mayor just got himself reelected, continuing the country's right-wing shift. His first term was pretty bad and his second one is shaping up to be even worse. We can expect overtourism to keep ravaging the city and real estate speculation to remain rampant. A city for tourists and the rich.

We all know Venezuela is not a democracy but Liberal and Progressive media should really do its homework and check who the Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado is. Maybe ask why she was invited as a speaker by the European far right group "patriots.eu"

For people wishing to visit Portugal: please don't. Nothing against you personally (I'm sure you're great) but tourism in Portugal has become the engine of social inequality, inflation and corruption. Please stop feeding this vampiric industry that is sucking the country dry and making us all suffer

Rereading Demon the Fallen RPG (great memories from when White Wolf published great stuff). Will I run a Demon game? No idea. At the moment I'm just reading for the lore and I'm really enjoying it!

Watched Abigail and I liked it more than I thought I would. It has a good initial premise, little girl turns around and hunts jaded mercenary team. In spite of being a horror movie there's some elements of humour that make it lighter. All in all it was a good time.

Thinking about playing Baldur's Gate 3. Only thing stopping me is my unwillingness to research builds for all the characters 😂I love CRPGs but increasingly I resent the learning curves of the more complex ones. Wish me luck

The police has arrested 6 people that belonged to a far right militia group. They had access to weapons made using 3D printing technology and explosives. One the people arrested was a high ranking member of the police force. The media says the group was highly trained and was preparing an attack.

I've always had a fascination with maps. Historical, present day, fantasy, whatever. They were always springboards for the imagination. These days I still draw maps to create campaign settings (or adventures) for ttrpgs. I still haven't tried any map creation software but maybe one day I will.

Right wing terror continues in Portugal. This time in Porto. Volunteers that help to feed the homeless were attacked by neo nazis. The police has only made one arrest in this case. Again the government remains silent about the growing right wing violence that is spreading through the country.

As Lisbon keeps getting pushed as tourism destination Portugal's real political and social climate keeps unravelling. Extreme right wing movements terrorise people in the streets and have just stabbed an actor at a theatre's door. The government denies there is a right wing security problem.

It's been a rough week. A lot going on, not all of it good. As such I've made the executive decision to take the day off to be lazy. Sleeping late, light lunch, a small nap, some of my favourite icecream and now some feel good classic horror movies.
