NEW: North Carolina’s top elections official is asking the state's DMV for voters’ full Social Security numbers.

If the DMV agrees, it would give the state board unprecedented access to sensitive voter data — opening the door to mass voter purges and data breaches.

Brown University joined MIT in rejecting President Trump’s "compact" that would erode nondiscrimination protections for students and faculty, campus free speech, and the integrity of medical research.

Every college and university must follow suit and defend academic freedom from government abuse.

President Christina Paxson P’19 P’MD’20 said that the compact would “restrict academic freedom and undermine the autonomy of Brown’s governance.”

- Why only Congress can suspend habeas

- Justice Amy Coney Barrett's helpful 2014 scholarship

- How Miller goes beyond undocumented migrants

- Why Miller’s remarks should be self-defeating (courts rejecting "invasion" claims)

- Why this matters to everyone in the US

Via "One First," me on why Stephen Miller's riff on suspending habeas corpus is not just factually and legally wrong (in multiple respects), but reflects a dangerous escalation in the Trump administration's rhetorical attacks on the courts:

148. Suspending Habeas Corpus
In response to adverse rulings in numerous immigration cases, Stephen Miller is raising the specter of suspending habeas. His argument is factually and legally nuts, but it's worth explaining *why.*
