Still a few caddis on the wing. A pair of mating Chaetopteryx villosa locally SJ93. The overexposed flash shot does show the distinctive stiff wing bristles arising from a "pimple-like" base.

You know the feeling, Tel’s looking over your shoulder and you’ve reached your last egg carton. But wait there’s an Angle Shades - phew, close shave! So I lift the tray out and a noctuid falls to the floor - it’s only a White-point; my second ever record. Well pleased to say the least. #TeamMoth

Never expected to find something feeding on Himalayn Balsam but here is the mine of the Agromyzid fly Phytoliriomyza melampyga at Crown Meadow, Stone.

Well that’s interesting. The Sunflower that I posted earlier has been identified by the CR as Perennial Coneflower Rudbeckia fulgida; a new county record!

A simple, but effective, colour scheme at this time of year - the Feathered Thorn. #TeamMoth

Surprised to seeing this growing by the canal. It’s about 30cm tall. Looks like a diminutive Sunflower. What do you think @naturelark.bsky.social

Another moth profile; this time the gorgeous Black Rustic. Very difficult to photograph with artificial light; doesn't convey the black crushed velvet appearance. #TeamMoth

Been waiting ages to find one of these. Trouble is there are at least 4 different species and I'm not an expert. I think it is Fluted Bird's Nest. Any fungi folk out there?
October 13, 2025 at 3:34 PM
13 species in SJ93 with a Silver Y, Carcina quercana and a late Straw Dot. There were 3 Mervs outside the trap but none inside this morning - seems to be a theme with them. Also had a Knot Grass larva crawling over the patio. #TeamMoth
