DHS detention has always been dehumanizing, unsafe, undignified—all while generating profits for private prison companies. Enough! We don’t need any more detention centers. That is why I am co-sponsoring the Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act to end detention and to restore due process.

I know that this was a difficult week for the people of Chicago, especially for parents of young children. I want to remind you that, as a member of the Homeland Security Committee, I am determined to use every tool at my disposal to put a stop to an agency that is terrorizing our families.
