wasnt expecting to like love lies bleeding as much as i did. so much hornier than i thought it'd be, lots of gross textural details too. always a relief when you can tell a story about queer people is completely unconcerned with Positive Rep.

tbf i havent read the novel so this aspect of it may not be as important as i think. there's obviously gonna be lots going on in a 1000+ page book! but if by necessity you have to streamline the narrative then centering this is such an obvious way to immediately get at the required level of pathos
i just think its a missed opportunity, when adapting a story about a guy who wants to avenge himself but in the process accidentally becomes genuinely attached to the young adult children of the men whose lives he's planning to destroy, to barely spend any time on those relationships at all

that new count of monte cristo movie some of my euro oomfs on tumblr are posting about is just fine. mostly made me yearn for when films like this (sweeping historical adventure epics) didn't feel like such rare occurrences.

sometimes youre in the middle of reading a short story collection and it becomes painfully obvious the author thinks their dull nyc/san francisco/seattle social scene is the site of deeply profound and radical truths that reveal themselves in The Mundane. this is never the case. its just vapid!
