Lilian's winter coat, based on an Edwardian coat... it's still not warm enough for where he's going, though 😔 it's always fashion over function with him.

Been a while since I shared something from the wip... water is an ongoing theme. And also an ongoing issue.🦐
The midday sun beat down over the lake, the air thick with moisture and the humming of insects. Osprey watched as Lilian untied his robe and tossed it aside with a distinct air of nonchalance, though he seemed strangely determined not to meet Osprey’s eyes. He edged his way along the boardwalk a ways from Osprey, gazing into the deeper water as if contemplating where best to make his entrance. Without the robe, Osprey thought he looked particularly vulnerable, his pale limbs gangly and awkward in that way of a youth who hadn’t yet come to possess his body with the learned grace of maturity. Yet as soon as his lord dove into the water, he looked right at home. Osprey watched Lilian’s figure dart beneath the sunlit surface, his pale skin lit a glassy green as he plunged through rippling bands of light. In the water, Lilian seemed to come alive in a way he rarely did elsewhere. He looked comfortable, adept– like he belonged there.

From the bed, Lilian watched him with an expression of mild amusement, his eyebrows raised. “I’m starting to worry that you might be a danger to the both of us.” Osprey let out an exasperated sigh. “Do you want this, or not?” “I suppose I’ll have to trust you not to overdose me,” said Lilian in his usual singsong voice, his eyes glimmering tauntingly in the low light. Just for that, Osprey ejected a portion of the dose back into the bottle, and Lilian huffed, rolling his eyes. When Osprey returned to his bedside with the needle in hand, Lilian tactfully kept quiet, though Osprey felt his eyes on him as he angled himself to prick him. As gently as he could manage, he took hold of Lilian’s arm, eyeing the network of veins beneath his lord’s translucent skin. Even in the low light, he could find them easily; the fine webbing like azure branches painted on porcelain, the angry smudge of a bruise where his IV had been. It was delicate work, considering the state Osprey was in. But despite his fatigue, muscle memory saw him through the task. After a moment’s hesitation, he pressed the needle into his lord’s soft skin and plunged the syringe.

in general I wrote more this year than I ever have before. I'm learning to actually draft and move forward and not get caught up in perfectionism before getting the story out.

Ansel... having a bad dream... The loneliness seemed louder, somehow, than it had been in the wild desolation of deserts and mountain tops, when he’d been truly alone, without another soul in miles. It was worse when he could hear them- people who belonged to each other, who fit somewhere, however strange their confluence. No matter how close he came, it was as if he was always in the next room over, separated by walls or glass or something vague and undefined, something that they all seemed to have that he inexplicably lacked. He kept to the shadows like a mangy stray dog, skirting the edges of something bright and warm he could only view through window panes. They had their color and light, but he belonged only to the mist and the night, to the mournful fathoms of the ocean.

Vera and Ansel looing sad together. Bird Divorce </3 She had always been so cheerful, somehow, and he’d never understood why. For so many years, he had survived for her—because she was bright and constant and brimming with life for such a frail creature—because he’d made it his duty to protect her, to keep her safe and well. It was strange that he hadn’t realized it before, but with the subject of family still tugging at his mind, it seemed suddenly obvious in hindsight. She’d always been more like a sister than a wife. As Ansel gazed at the line of mountains ahead, his mind seemed unable to rid itself of her image; her soft, melodic voice, her downy hair not unlike the color of the sky as it began its slow fade to dusk. He flicked the crumpled remains of his cigarette outside and closed the window. As the rush of wind subsided, he became suddenly aware of Calder’s eyes on him. He hazarded a glance at the passenger seat and found Calder studying him with an insidious smirk, looking as though he’d been watching him for far longer than he’d realized. His skin prickled. “Were you thinking about her?”
