The math is a bit wonky in the middle segment, but a very important point, that when existing and maintaining your life takes energy, you CANNOT spend ALL that energy on work and expect to survive. That the amount ANY person is able to do needs to cover life in a work/life balance (and fun too!)
People love to talk about whether or not disabled people can work but if you can work just fine and your disability is destroying your ability to have a life outside of work (because work takes all yout energy and more) Dead Silence. Nobody cares. File this under, oh you can be active for 4 hours? You can work part time. Um, no, I have to get ready for work (30 min) get to work (15 min) get home from work (15 min) feed myself all day (30 min) maintain myself, my home and my life (15 min, yeah right), which leaves 15 min for work and absolutely nothing else. (note bad maths here is the picture's and not my own, the point remains valid though) This is so accurate, back after I'd relapsed I wanted to try and go in for one class at school so I could still stay in contact with the education system. I let slip during a meeting that I managed to drag myself to thatI could manage about 4 hours of activity a week, which the teacher sprang on to mean I was being lazy for just trying to get to a 1 hr class. Never mind that it was 30 minutes travel, that I would have to get washed and dresed, that I would probably still need to recover for 3 days from it. Far too often abled people see the things they do easily as "non activities", they don't realise that for many disabled people these things have to be carefully planned and measured, and sometimes they simply can't be done.

Seems like a solid plan... seems like a good idea to invest in research into the vast amount of problems we have at the moment even if there wasn't a sudden availability of skilled candidates to tempt across the Atlantic.
What Europe should do RIGHT NOW: Make it extremely easy for US scientists to get long-term visa, create as many additional research jobs in key areas as possible, create new, generous, science and research funds. People arelosing their jobs over there NOW. Lets welcome them.

Boots Theory of Socio-Economic Unfairness, by Terry Pratchett Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so think that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles. But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet. This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socio-economic unfairness.

A confused bird: Lets bring back the term "cats" when referring to a group of people (i.e. "see you cats later") Pros: 1) it's gender neutral 2) you get the chance to look like a cool jazz musician 3) you can compare all your friends to cats (always good) Cons: 1) ???? Feeding the bees! Glad they're still in there (as it has been cold and they weren't coming out and it was a bad idea to go letting drafts in checking on them too often). Hopefully next year I won't need to, as now I have them home I am going to be more restrained on my honey harvesting. #beekeeping
