Exactly this. Not to mention everything has gotten more complicated to do. Want to cancel a subscription? Gotta be on desktop. Go through this portal, now go to this one, no give us a call, trying to do this in safari? Nope we only work in chrome. So we just don’t do it.
It's the enshittification of everything. I remember when I stopped answering my landline. Then I stopped answering my mobile. Then I turned off email notifications. Now I don't get up to check a text. Little by little the marketers have taken over every aspect of communication. Sell, sell, sell!

This whole post deserves to be read but this quote strikes me as the best articulation of how I've been feeling about these models

"Only weirdos care about how smart the models are. Most people just want new features and nicer UX."
Late Takes on OpenAI o1
I realize how late this is, but I didn’t get a post out while o1 was fresh, and still feel like writing one despite it being cold. (Also, OpenAI just announced they’re going to ship new stuff starting...

And this is why your AV software has to be many 9s of reliable for this kind of stuff. Weird edge cases happen (this one not even edge imo) and people rightly so will just stop using it.
7/n as the pickup quickly crossed the lanes (again, with plenty of time), Autopilot suddenly disengaged and locked up the brakes as if the truck were a stationary object. A car was flying up behind me and I had to mash the accelerator. Scared the shit out of me. Good thing for the accelerarion

We hate paying for things. Netflix w/ ads, Uber ads, Amazon ads. Soon avoid paying this toll road if you watch these ads!
Almost two years to the day that ChatGPT is released, the innovation at OpenAI turns to this generation’s great unlock: advertising. on.ft.com/4geCEkJ

Been saying OpenAi would do this - eventually everyone does ads.

Why? Simple people hate paying for things.

For many reasons I think this is a wrong take. In fact I think big tech will likely only get bigger.
The Beginning of the End of Big Tech
From politicians to VC firms, everyone is falling out of love with the massive, money-oriented, global technology titans. In their place, we have the chance to build something open and trustworthy.

Give me an iPhone mini with 2 day battery life already!
Sources: the prototypes of the thin iPhone are between 5 and 6 millimeters thick, and may be too thin for a physical SIM, which could dampen China sales (The Information)

Less expensive to develop and more expensive to run (for now). Interested in how this will impact Trainium & Maia development which both seem to be optimized for training use cases?

Incredible. Love a technology that makes a quote like -- “To be honest, we really don’t know how it works, the mechanism is unknown at the moment,”"
November 22, 2024 at 8:13 PM
Might be easier than current CAPTCHAs somehow
"Claude, create the worlds most annoying CAPTCHA"
"Make it more annoying"
"Make it REALLY annoying"
(apparently this is all technically solvable)

I can tell I'm enjoying Bluesky so far in that I'm scrolling *slower* than I do Twitter. Scroll or swipe speed likely an underrated metric.
