Important public service announcement about the lesser known dangers of liquorice... please read, especially if you have high blood pressure.
As a good suggestion from @deevybee.bsky.social I have decided to post my infamous liquorice thread from X a few years ago to here. This is valuable knowledge if you or anyone you know has high blood pressure and likes a bit of liquorice. The stuff might kill you.

So here's the kind of important thing I have to decide today. When talking about new employment rights involving no qualifying period, is it:
• Day one rights
• Day-one rights
• “Day one” rights
• D1 rights

or something else? #ukemplaw

This article explains why it is so difficult to regulate zero-hours contracts, by someone who has worked on them for years (note that the new 12-week reference period is not contained in the ERB itself but likely to be confirmed in regulations).

So the much heralded ERB is basically a manifesto in bill form. The 100-day target was always over ambitious and completely unnecessary.
From the BBC: ‘There are 28 separate measures in the bill to be introduced later, most of which will be subject to further consultation and will not take effect before autumn 2026.’
