Wreaths and snow this morning at Arlington National Cemetery.
Wreaths Across America Day took place yesterday at the cemetery, just in time for the snow.

I’ve photographed snow with D.C’s Christmas trees since 2003. It doesn’t often happen in D.C. Here is a selection of my photos, labeled with the date. @capitalweather.bsky.social

I reviewed 197,079 photos across 2,915 photoshoots (January 1996 – October 2025) to select 281 photos for my new coffee table book showcasing weather in the D.C. area.

It took months to review the photos, and it brought back lots of good memories. The book can be ordered at dcstormchaser.com/books.

I finished my "Seasons of 2025" photo comparison collage today at the Tidal Basin.

The tree I chose to photograph was one of the last trees at the Tidal Basin to produce fall foliage, so I had to wait until today to shoot it. It was worth the wait. @capitalweather.bsky.social

Another storm photo from last week. If you're wondering, it wasn't a direct hit.

Last week was certainly stormy. Here are a few shots from Wednesday evening.

Sunrise this morning was drab and gray, but at least the tulips at the Netherlands Carillon added some color.

I'm happy to report that Stumpy II is alive and well at the Tidal Basin. The tree is located on the north side near the Japanese Lantern.

Sunrise this morning as the cherry blossoms reached peak bloom. The lack of wind allowed a timed expose to capture the blossoms without blurring.

A stormy sunrise this morning. Light rain was falling when I took the photo.

On Saturday, I pitched a story about pancake ice at Great Falls to my WaPo editor. I had doubts that it was interesting enough to run, but CWG posted it with a video and photos I shot, and it became one of the top trending stories on WaPo. I was a bit surprised. Here's a link:
