Movie reviews and stuff at DCFilmdom.com. My reviews go like this: If I enjoyed it, I enjoyed it. My reviews usually explain why.
This is the face behind this account and all the post-2017 reviews at DCFilmdom.com. (I also have pre-2017 reviews, but I had another writer working with me. Miss you, Michael P.)

Unfortunately, it's also the brain behind the whole shebang.

Just witness the unbelievable wonder of... this.
What has two thumbs and was so excited at the prospect of seeing all four hours and 41 minutes of KILL BILL: THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR at a critics' screening, he went to the theater a week early?!

Movie Review - WICKED: FOR GOOD
dcfilmdom.com/2025/11/wick...
A straight continuation of where WICKED: PART I left off in tone, tenor, and form. Musical numbers (save one) may not be as catchy and memorable, but the rest is solid. What a conclusion--well worth the year's wait.

For me, the NOW YOU SEE ME series is a pleasure--I love the feeling of seeing a good trick. After a meh second film, the franchise comes roaring back with NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON'T, and I know I'm going to see it at least twice more.

After PREY and PREDATOR: KILLER OF KILLERS, was it too much to ask that Dan Trachtenberg complete his awesome franchise trifecta with PREDATOR: BADLANDS? Hell, no, it wasn't, and Trachtenberg delivers in bold style.

Movie Review: BUGONIA
dcfilmdom.com/2025/10/bugo...
Another Yorgos Lanthimos knockout that uses our biases and what we think of as "common knowledge" against us in this dark, absurdist comedy.

ICYMI: Black Phone 2

My misgivings about the first act of the film were blown away by the latter 2/3rds. Read why.

Movie Review: BLACK PHONE 2
dcfilmdom.com/2025/10/blac...
I think I had unreasonable expectations for this one, so that's why this is a little late. Really had to clarify my thoughts. This one's a corker, y'all.

Black Phone 2 : Movie Review | DC Filmdom
Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill have cooked up some gruesome and effective frights for us in Black Phone 2.

A late one: V/H/S/HALLOWEEN
dcfilmdom.com/2025/10/v-h-...
Thought this one would be better, considering its trick-or-treat season throughline. The two stories I liked the best--"Ut Supra Sic Infra" and "Kidprint--are good enough to get this movie into the "good for a watch" zone.

V/H/S/Halloween : Movie Review | DC Filmdom
Two standout stories in V/H/S/Halloween are enough to balance out their ho-hum companion pieces, where the twists and action feel like the filmmakers were trying too hard to create something shocking ...

Movie Review - TRON: ARES
dcfilmdom.com/2025/10/tron...
A thrilling chase film that has some of the best CGI I've seen in years. Also, Jared Leto doesn't ruin this terrific sequel. Also also, it's another movie where Gillian Anderson sports a British accent!

Movie Review: GOOD BOY
In US theaters now, UK and Irish cinemas on Friday 10/10. Wherever you are, get on it. Indy's a lovely dog and, surprisingly, a good actor! Here's my review over at DCFilmdom.com:

Movie Review: ELEANOR THE GREAT
dcfilmdom.com/2025/09/elea...
Wonderful performances--especially from Rita Zohar as a Holocaust survivor--drive this "lie gone completely out of control" movie. Scarlett Johansson's directorial feature debut stays respectful and solemn... with a touch of the impish.

Movie Review: ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER
dcfilmdom.com/2025/09/one-...
Paul Thomas Anderson's take on an action drama is powerful stuff.
One of 2025's best.
One of PTA's best.
Playing IN VISTAVISION in London, NYC, and LA. Watch it there if you can.
DMV folks: It's playing in 70MM at the AFI Silver.

Movie Review: HIM
dcfilmdom.com/2025/09/him-...
A brutal movie about what it takes to earn GOAT status that uses disparate cinematic elements to say... everything and nothing. Sound and fury in search of a message about childhood dreams turning into adult nightmares as one strives for greatness.

Movie Review: SPINAL TAP II: THE END CONTINUES
dcfilmdom.com/2025/09/spin...
As a musician and a fan of Spinal Tap, this movie made me laugh. It's a different thing than the 1984 original, but it still has the heart that endeared the film AND the band to me.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Long Walk
dcfilmdom.com/2025/09/the-...
The third of four filmed Stephen King adaptations to be released this year.
Powerful in its simplicity and its fight for humanity amid dehumanization.
The cast is spectacular.
The parallels to our own lives, even more so.

Movie Review: THE CONJURING: LAST RITES
dcfilmdom.com/2025/09/the-...
Michael Chaves' best of his Conjuring Universe films. Much more enjoyable and solid than THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT, Chaves makes more confident choices and does not hold anything back.
