Once upon a time I did stuff online people cared about, now I am just a mundane nerd.
Hahaha I just had my first Huntsman in the car experience. 😆 fully inducted to Australia now.

Me yesterday: explaining to my 2 year old we don’t leave the back door open because it lets the flies in.

Me yesterday evening: killing the fly

Me this morning: spitting a dead fly out of my coffee

Goddamnit.

Closed a chapter in my life that’s been open for so long.

It’s nothing dramatic though. In ‘03 I bought a husqvarna sewing machine after saving up for about a year to buy it.

In ‘09 the GFC was doing its thing and I had to sell it to scrape together enough cash to fix my car for a long drive home.

Weeding in Canberra.

I have no issues being critical of the Canberra government, but this mess with the dog dying from blue green algae poisoning being their fault is a bit much. See the screenshot of my apps? I ONLY have that swim guide app because the ACT government sufficiently warned me when I moved here.

Pet peeve: Instagram and other social media videos with extremely mundane content (like showing off cabinets or applying rouge) using an emotionally intense track from a famous film score as the background music.

Instagram has the best algorithm for me. It’s all cute animals, carpentry, architecture, fitness, and cooking. But every so often is some street food vendor making an overcooked leathery egg dish at 2x speed and I’m deeply upset.

“We are poisoning ourselves and inviting others to poison us.”

Latest Sam Harris rings true to me. open.substack.com/pub/samharri...

Of course I love the kittens and knitted things and jokes of friends - but everyone else the algorithm serves? I don’t want it, I don’t need it, I want it gone.
We Are Losing the Information War with Ourselves

Trump is only banning flag burning because he wants to hold the monopoly on desecrating sacred American things.

I’ve always wanted a coverstitch machine but now I am actively scheming how to get one.

I decided I want to make a tiny toy cake out of felt. It won’t be amazing, cause I have to exercise some restraint (so no remaking stuff til it’s perfect) but it shouldn’t be shit either. I’m currently hand sewing felt sprinkles and getting more excited as each little component comes together. 🍰

More details emerging on what is driving historic losses of US #bees
Note that the pesticide analysis is still to be finished due to funding cuts to US labs.
Quite a lot to unpack here, and some of it highly relevant to how we are managing bees in Australia

‘Could become a death spiral’: scientists discover what’s driving record die-offs of US honeybees
Experts scrambling to understand losses in hives across the country are finally identifying the culprits. And the damage to farmed bees is a sign of trouble for wild bees too

The tiny Vegemite jar is glass and I’ve broken like 4 of them. The tiny Marmite jar, on the other hand, is plastic. This slight difference led me to discovering marmite is better. 😅

I’m going to buy one of those stupid croissant-shaped bags to blend in with other high functioning professional women, but I want you all to know the bags I actually want look like I’m about to saddle up and go looking for a niece who was abducted by Comanche raiders.

A fitness influencer I follow who is in great shape but gained a little weight over the years just started semaglutide and I’m disappointed AF. I support using this drug for overweight and obese people to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, not for healthy people to enable an eating disorder…

I desperately want him to play Benoit Blanc (or an appropriate analogue) in a muppet movie. I think that would be hilarious.

I really liked hanging out on Twitter and making friends with everyone but the whole aspect of social media that poisons your brain and mood was always there. The less time I spend on social the more biting and obvious the poison is whenever I drop in.

I got another “are you the dawn from the radio show?” question today. I still suspect that Dawn is fake, just cause some of the things she said didn’t seem to make sense. But if she’s real I hope she’s out there having a nice life.

Neatest thing about parenting is getting to see stuff like the first time a human sees a leaf. Just now my daughter noticed the dust in the air, illuminated by morning sun for the first time. After trying to grab it many times she did a happy stomping dance.
