A comic involving my ocs, Krieg and Hale, set years ago when they still fought during the Dragonsong War. At the turn of seasons, as Spring begins to creep its way out of Winter, a large group consisting of soldiers from various Ishgardian houses set up camp. Though belonging to no house, Hale Oak stands tall as their sword and shield. Even now, he stands and observes a group of dragons as they fly and roar overhead, making their way from their nests to feed and explore. Hale is a pale Hellsguard Roegadyn with platinum blonde hair and blue eyes. Eyes which now watch the sky with a distant look of concern. Someone is speaking, though their words do not reach him, until he is pulled from his thoughts by a loud exclamation. "Hale!" Hale is pulled back into the moment by Krieg's voice. Krieg is a brown Hyur with brown hair and amber eyes. He's dressed in lighter attire, compared to Hale's bulky armor. Hale: Hm? Sorry... what were y'sayin'? Krieg stands in front of him with a journal and quill in hand, smiling up at the older man, though his brows furrow ever so slightly. Krieg: I was saying your predictions are amazingly accurate. Even with the weather colder than usual this time of year, they're still moving out of their nests. Krieg turns his attention back to the sky, taking in the sight of the dragons moving. Krieg: You mentioned before how your astrologians track them, and having your own personal record of behavior patterns... but to see it align like this... Hale is no longer regarding the sight of the dragons overhead, instead looking towards the shield healer with a softened expression. Hale: Yeah... Krieg: If camp preparations go smoothly, we'll be more than ready by dawn when they begin circling the area.

Krieg closes his journal carefully, storing the quill along the binding as his thoughts continue, Krieg: Though, I pray we will not need to face them... Even with extra time and more soldiers, your count... Hale: ... Unspoken concerns fill the air with uneasy silence. Only broken by the calming sounds of a nearby stream. Hale's grip tightens on his shield which rests propped up by his side. Krieg turns to make his way towards the camp, but stops to place a comforting hand on Hale's arm, journal tucked under his other arm. Krieg: We'll do what we can to protect them, Hale. I promise. Hale: Right... I should, y'know... Hale's expression falls, his thoughts going to colder places. Krieg: Take a moment, I can see your mind is elsewhere. I will go and let the others know what we've seen, so they may move accordingly. Hale: Thank you, Krieg. With that final thanks, Krieg leaves Hale's side. Hale watches him go with a slight smile, always finding himself more at ease in the other mans presence. But once more his thoughts return and he turns away from the sight of Krieg, dropping his head momentarily. In the final image, Hale turns his sights back towards the sky, where two more dragons make their way over the clouds... flying to catch up with the rest who wait further ahead. Nightfall approaches quickly.

In the middle of the night, in a dense yet quiet forest sparsely illuminated by the gatherings of fireflies, a female midlander stepped down from her chocobo mount to examine a message adressed to her: Two arrows, stuck to the ground, feathers scattered about. It looks like skipping a night's rest paid off, as she is now as close to her target as she's ever going to be. However, that grim warning now has her acutely aware of her surroundings. There's no telling what a cornered prey is about to do.

i will never ever ever stop being a hater about the way in which fanon treats shards in the most boring way possible and reduces characters down to mere tropes. i hate the way that i feel like 90% of people just utterly missed the point in SHB and don't care because they like their headcanon more

in all seriousness, i do think ARR is legitimately good and very charming and there's so much context and world building and character building that is completely lost if you just decide to skip it to get to what everyone tells you is "the good stuff"
