For E’rahez: when he’s gardening, mending a shirt, or caring for his bow. The quiet moments when he doesn’t have to put on a brave face for others.

For Calu’to: generally he wears his heart on his sleeve, but he’s especially Seen when he’s cooking for people. The care he puts into preferences.

#SixSentenceSaturday 11/8: Clear direction / the scent of food + 11/15: Ignoring someone / something breaking If nothing else would raise Calu'to's spirits, Cahya thought, then surely his favourite dish would at least do him some good; steam and a savoury, honeyed aroma wafted from the tray as she approached the weathered, time-worn door that led to the bedroom her brothers once shared, cracked ever so slightly just as she'd left it so she could hear if he stirred. She gently knocked in the pattern they'd used as children to let him know she'd come calling, listening and frowning slightly when she received no response. "It's me," she said, and pushed on when still he did not answer, "I know what you—actually, no, I can't possibly presume to know what you're going through right now, but…" Sighing with a heavy heart, she nudged the door open with her foot to peer around the door. "You can't keep skipping meals, you know he wouldn't want you to—Calu'to!" The tray slipped from between her fingers and fell to the floor with an almighty crash, earthenware shattering upon impact and hot food scalding her where it spilled down her front, but Cahya felt nothing, heard nothing over the sudden thundering of her heartbeat rushing in her ears—she could only stare in abject horror at the scene unfolding before her. Calu'to sat curled upon himself on the edge of his old bed, shoulders hunched up to his jaw as he gripped, tugged, clawed at his hair, wild-eyed and muttering to himself—but most alarming was the dark, malicious aura that visibly emanated from her brother's form. Every fibre of her being screamed at her to flee, but somehow Cahya marshalled the courage to force herself into action; on trembling legs she nevertheless staggered forward, meaning to cross the room whose threshold she'd paced a thousand thousand times before, a shaking hand outstretched before her, so close she could feel the chill of the dark aura send goose pimples up her arms and down her spine— "No, get back!" Strong arms embraced her from behind and wrenched her away at the same moment Calu'to's head snapped unnaturally toward her, like he'd finally noticed her presence, those wild eyes now fully fixed upon her like a beast upon its prey; most frightening of all, his sclera had bled an inky black, hollow and dripping down his chin, and she recoiled back with a petrified shriek. Her rescuer wrested her further still, maneuvering her to stand between her and the twisted form of Calu'to, and it wasn't until they spoke again that she recognized the voice as their oldest sibling. "Get ahold of yourself, brother!" cried Calu'a, the crack in his voice betraying terror equal to Cahya's own, and he backed the both of them closer to the door even as he held her steady and barked, "Go find Da!" though he needn't have said it—a breath later Uda'li burst into the room with his staff drawn, and the indescribable look that dawned upon her father's face when he laid eyes upon his youngest son made Cahya's stomach lurch. She spun back around in time to catch the last glimpse of humanity flicker in her brother's eyes—the last she would ever see of him at all—as recognition lit them for the barest moment, before a guttural cry that wretched itself from Calu'to's lips, his form twisting and contorting in the instant the swirling darkness grew to a tempest and engulfed him in a macabre cocoon; even through the roaring winds, the crunch of bone and agonized wails bore into Cahya's very soul for what seemed an eternity—and at the end of it all, the horrific visage of the nightmarish creature that emerged from within would haunt her for the rest of her days. With one final gut-wrenching, almost mournful screech, the monster took wing—house exploded around them, and Cahya was blinded by a flash of white magic as Calu'a flung himself upon her, and she knew no more.
