A few years ago, I decided I was going to make a goal of attending one new airshow a year that I had not attended before. One of the new shows I added to my list last year was the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show.

Blue Angels Opposing Solo #6 LT Connor “Buddy” O'Donnell heating up #5 CDR Thomas “Franz” Zimmerman at the Augusta Airshow. Do you know which maneuver this is from?

Precision and Beauty: Watching the precision flying of the Blue Angels is always impressive and beautiful. Here’s a slow-motion view of the Delta Aileron Roll from the August Airshow last April illustrating this. The Delta Aileron Roll is a new maneuver that the Blues added in 2025.

I’ve had a few people ask what a night airshow show is, so I thought I’d share some images from the night show at last year’s Wings Over North Georgia Airshow.

A night show typically starts just before sunset. You get some nice golden hour color on the planes that are flying.

Here’s a close-up view from the 2024 Atlanta Air Show with Opposing Solo #6 Major Jeff Downie and some of the diamond repositioning for the next maneuver in the background.

My post from Monday sure generated a lot of comments. Since it’s been proven by the Facebook “experts” that it’s a fake image, I figured I would share another fake Blue Angels image captured 36 seconds later.

Yesterday I shared my all-time favorite Blue Angels shot. Today I decided to repeat the “all-time favorite” theme and share my favorite F-22 Raptor shot. I have a metal print of this hanging in my office.

This is my all-time favorite Blue Angels image. I have it printed on my phone case and a huge fleece blanket. This was LCDR Cary “Chewy” Rickoff taking off from the last time the Blue Angels were at the Rome airshow in 2021. This was the first year the Blues were flying the “new” Super Hornets.

Here’s a newly process image of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Solos #5 "Franz" Thomas Zimmerman and #6 "Buddy" with one of my favorite maneuvers—The Fortus from the Augusta Air Show last year. It feels like forever since I’ve seen the Blues fly. I last saw them in late April last year.

I haven’t posted any landscape images in a while, so here’s an image from early fall last year. This was on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina on October 11th.

A couple of days ago I shared my video compilation of the first two days from the 2025 Wings Over North Georgia Airshow. Here’s the final day (Sunday). I mostly shot videos on this day, so I have more detail and some of the acts that were not included in the first video.

Kyle Fowler did a great job at the 2025 Wings Over North Georgia Airshow. He has announced he has a new plane that can hold even more pyro, so the night show should be even better this year.

I decided to use the videos I captured from the 2025 Wings Over North Georgia Airshow to create an overview video. This video is from Day 1 (Friday) and Day 2 (Saturday) activities. I was mostly focusing on still images the first two days, so my videos were a bit sparse.

“Mach” at the SUN ‘n FUN night show last year. I was going for something a bit different here. What do you think?

Golden Hour Turn ‘n Burn: I’m back to looking at SUN ‘n FUN images from last year. Here’s another shot from the Wednesday night show with Major Melanie “Mach” Kluesner from the U.S. Air Force F-35A Demo Team making a turn with some golden hour sunlight reflecting off the bottom of the F-35A.

I started working on these images this morning and had to stop and focus on work. I debated waiting until the morning to post them but decided since this was a dark shot and it’s dark now, I’ll post them. This is Thom Richard doing an engine run up at the Warbirds Over Monroe Airshow.

Yesterday’s post was a wider view with just a small view of the plane. In keeping with that theme from yesterday, here’s a shot from the Wednesday night show last year at SUN 'n FUN.

I passed over this shot a few times, but the more I looked at it the more I liked it. Normally you would see a more zoomed in image focusing on the plane. The more I looked at this, the more liked the mood and story.

Oscar Socarras inspired me to do a comparison of a couple of different editing styles after listening to his recent editing edition of the Spotters Podcast.

Another aspect of airshows that I enjoy is seeing legacy airframes. At the Wings Over North Georgia Airshow in October, the American Airlines Flagship Detroit Douglas DC-3 was on static display.
January 7, 2026 at 2:05 PM
One of my favorite presentations at an airshow is the U.S. Air Force Heritage Flight and U.S. Navy Legacy flight where they fly modern planes as their older counterparts from the past in the same formation.

As I’m working on a video for Sun ‘n Fun from last year I’m going through some new images that I have not yet processed. This flight was one of my favorites from the entire week. I was excited to finally be able to see the 50th anniversary livery of the F-16 Viper Demo Team.

Here’s another image of the VMA-321 Ace of Spades Harrier from Sun ‘n Fun last year. This is one intimidating looking plane when you are viewing it face on.
January 3, 2026 at 4:21 PM
As I was going through my Sun ‘n Fun images from last year, I ran across these VMA-321 Ace of Spades Harrier images. Given that this year will be the very last flights for this airframe, that makes these images even more meaningful.
