It’s not every day that UX researcher whistleblowers testify before the Senate. Yesterday, two former Meta researchers, Jason Sattizahn and Cayce Savage, shared their concerns with safety research for Meta VR products, and more broadly within Meta. So how does UX research move on from here? 🧵

Sometimes I reckon LinkedIn would be a lot better without comments on posts at all.

It's bizarre how often duolingo asks you to type out a word in French and that word is very often the exact same in English. Perhaps they could choose words I don't already know. C'est.... bizarre.

This type of behaviour is becoming a theme for me recently. File it under "bored designers just changing shit"
Thanks Apple I didn’t need to see my todo list anyway

Years ago there used to be some UX advice that could be roughly titled "You don't work for Amazon". It meant that copying UX patterns the likes of Amazon used was foolish, when you were working for East Dumbartonshire Council. These days the equivalent might be "You don't work for Duolingo."

Rayner immediately resigns from the cabinet and as deputy party leader when told she broke ministerial conduct. Mandelson had to be sacked twice from cabinet jobs, was given a peerage for it and we're discussing whether he should be sacked for being best mates with a paedophile sex trafficker.

What on Earth?...
This is absolutely devastating... What on earth is this from Intermarché-Wanty??

Georg Zimmermann 🇩🇪 will wear this disappointment of a NC jersey at the Tour de France.

What are you thoughts on this jersey?

When you're working on a project that's someone important's grand idea, it's practically impossible to retrofit user-centricity. The best you'll do is a bit of user-centred theatre and some usability testing.

"The BBC’s reputation is held by everyone and when someone makes a mistake, it costs us. I think we absolutely need people to be exemplars of the BBC’s values and follow our social media policy. Simple as that.”

The problem with listening to billionaires' thoughts on the future of friendship is they're probably the least qualified on the subject to discuss it.
Mark Zuckerberg says Meta's chatbots will supplement your real friends: "The average American has fewer than 3 friends ... but has demand for ... 15 friends" (h/t x.com/romanhelmetg...)

Yeah it was wishful thinking.
My pick for Paris-Roubaix is Wout Van Aert. He struggled on the climbs in Flanders but looked very strong on the flat. Also his team were the better represented at the end. This matters more at Roubaix. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part.

Does anyone else find themselves adding a "Lillian" whenever they hear "Sitting at the Dock of the Bay"? Just me then.

The BBC's Steve Rosenberg is an absolute legend. If only we had such challenging reporting and questioning about western politics from the BBC.

It's that time of year where I don't know whether your moustache is a charity thing or you think it looks good. And of course my own fluffy face falls into neither category. File it under laziness.

I just found the calculator button on my PC keyboard. I've been typing "calc" into search for years on this thing. Stay tuned for more exciting updates on my life.

My daughter gaslights AIs for fun on her phone because she understands they're not real. Many people in my LinkedIn feed are doing the opposite. They sought validation from ChatGPT and then posted up what it said about them.

Thankfully our children understand this stuff more than us already.

Judging by my Facebook and Instagram feeds, I was the only person in Scotland who didn't see the Northern Lights last night.

I think if you really believe in democracy, there should be no place for political donations in it. It'll be interesting to see what happens in South Australia.

Random French tip: In order to remember how to say "I'm fed up with it" I link it in my head to being fed up of The Smiths. In particular J'en ai marre.

IKEA is often used as an example in Jobs To Be Done Theory. Can anyone find me evidence or confirm from their own knowledge if they consciously adopted JTBD? "Clayton said so" is not evidence BTW.

It seems like every moon is rare in some way these days. It's a strawberry daiquiri moon tonight or something tonight. Very rare. Looks just like every other moon, but is slightly different.

P.S I made the Strawberry Daquiri bit up

I was called a snowflake on LinkedIn for making this statement. Yes, he was wearing a bow tie in his profile pic. Not sure why that is always the case.
I was just pondering today about how Elon Musk is the modern day Henry Ford. They both made cars. They're both propped up by myths that make them out as being visionaries. They both incite racist violence and bigotry.
