Kay Hartley, an international scholar in mortarium studies, has died.

For seventy years she was ‘the oracle on Romano-British mortaria’. She single-handedly developed her discipline, beginning in the 1950s. and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters by Newcastle University in 2023.

Records in Britain have referred to periods of ‘sweating sickness’ or ‘epidemic fever’ which may have been caused by 𝘉. 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘴, but limited data means the likely cause of these outbreaks remains unknown.

The Society of Antiquaries has some of their Roman books heavily reduced - www.sal.org.uk/what-we-do/p...

In particular, the remaining volumes on Roman Mosaics by Cosh and Neal (Volume III South-East Britain [2 volumes in itself], Volume IV: Western Britain), recently £200, are now reduced to £50.
