The Rise And Fall Of The American Diner

www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyCtg...
The Rise And Fall Of The American Diner
New Jersey is the diner capital of America, boasting more than any other US state. But even in New Jersey, traditional, chrome-clad diners seem to be disappearing. Rising food costs, labor shortages, and competition from sit-down chains like Cracker Barrel and IHOP have all made it tough to be in the business. Yet, Tops, the state’s busiest diner, still serves 13,000 people a week. And Summit Diner, one of the state’s oldest, still slings out pancakes and Taylor Ham rolls from its tiny grill. So what happened to the all-American diner? And how, against steep odds, have Tops and Summit kept the Big Business of diners alive? Read "I've been in the same job for 14 years. When I broke my tibia, my boss came to my house and brought me food and money" — an interview with one of Summit Diner's employees: https://trib.al/4CQB0Bz Read "I run a nearly 100-year-old New Jersey diner. Pay attention to what is happening in #Sudan. Especially how those committing the atrocities are so confident they will get away with it that they are documenting it all.

As the #MAHA movement dismantles our health infrastructure I remember the Kofta machine promoted by the #Egypt government soon after Sisi came to power.

Does anyone have a rigorous explanation of why authoritarian movements do this?

If you care about the quality of photos on your #Wordpress website I built a plugin for you.

AVIF is an alternative to JPEG that allows smaller files and better quality, and this plugin is built with some special tweaks to make photos even better.
GitHub - ddegner/avif-local-support: AVIF local support plugin for wordpress. Converts JPEGs to AVIFs with a focus on quality and replaces JPEGs on the front-end of Wordpress.

I don't fan-boy over celebrities, but it was an incredible experience to meet Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and photograph her during an interview with CBS.

I was holding back tears several times.

Photo from April at protest against "Pigeons on Broadway" for alleged trapping of flocks of NY pigeons.

I've been in the store several times covering pigeon racing. But talking with the protesters I learned of a large, vibrant community who have more consensual relationships with pigeons.
