[6/6] So many alternatives to Twitter: BlueSky, Mastodon, Google Plus (dead), Threads. It all seems too exhausting. Frankly my favorite continues to be Instagram and Flickr, because I like the photographic image as a medium of social connected ness.

[5/ ] Back in the day, when blogs were still cool, I could write an email to a magic account and the mail would automatically turn into a blog post on Wordpress with links posted to Twitter and Facebook. I’m sure such a thing could be cobbled together today, but such a mess would be horrible.

[4/ ] Then Twitter blew up. It became the authoritative source for breaking news, politics etc. But I gradually lost interest. People would tell me that it was a dumpster fire, but I didn’t see it because of my limited . (This was before Elon bought it).

[3/ ] Posting from your cell phone involved using its 10-button numeric keypad to enter alphabetic characters. A 126 character limit to tweets was more than enough, though it put a crimp on posting from a browser.

[2/ ] I mostly only followed technologists that I knew personally. But then there were a few famous people (Star Trek actors, OK?) and news sites.

[1/ ] I originally joined Twitter in 2007, because I had started a group at Intel working on Solaris, and that was the OS that Twitter was built on. Many of the Solaris developers were on Twitter already, so I hopped on.
