The NHS 10-Year Plan includes a commitment to support SAS doctors in their career development, but meaningful change requires action.

As we celebrate #SASWeek25 Dr Karen Ellison explains how the SAS Six framework can help make this commitment a reality

Unintended consequences often do the real damage. A proposal by the last government to streamline the GMC’s categories of impairment would weaken their ability to manage cases where a doctor’s health is at stake. So important to protect doctors’ wellbeing when they are at their most vulnerable.
Over 30 other organisations have co-signed our letter calling on the government to retain the GMC’s ability to investigate #doctors with health concerns, under a distinct 'health' route. We are proud to stand together on this important issue

This is a vital piece of research which further highlights the pressure and stigma placed on doctors experiencing mental ill health.

We urgently need both a culture change and crucially, sufficient quality mental health support that is both preemptive and thorough.
73% of #doctors in the UK say they have continued to work despite not feeling mentally well enough.

These quotes are a tough read but it's why we are continuing to push for cultural change within the health sector. We have to reach a time when it is going to be OK to admit you are struggling with your mental health.
27% of #doctors feel taking time off for #mentalwellbeing issues is not “acceptable” where they work.

More needs to be done to enable and support healthcare workers to take time off when they are too unwell to work.

With the NHS being brought “back into democratic control”, I wonder if this will make MP-focused single issue specific health lobbying more of a thing again?
The UK prime minister Keir Starmer has announced the abolition of NHS England in a move he said would slash bureaucracy, save money and bring management of the health system ‘back into democratic control’ www.ft.com/content/b95d...

I worked at the NHS Confederation when NHS England was created and remember how all consuming that was along with all the other associated changes. There is going to be a lot of capacity and energy that now goes into its abolition

Fantastic episode of men talking openly and joking about their experience of cancer. Its been 20 years for me but so much I could remember, relate to and laugh about.
Today's episode of The Political Party is a special one in partnership with @cancerresearchuk.org.

Me, @herring1967.bsky.social and Mark Steel had a frank, raw, and funny chat about cancer.

Plus Dr Sam Godfrey from CRUK tells us why the future is bright.
