@taka-does-stuff.bsky.social more Barkley spreadsheet additions for 2025. At 42:00 there is an interview with runner Ken Zemach. Probably the “Kenny?” on the spreadsheet. Also at 37:30 Lees Makhlouf (spelling?) is a French speaking runner returning to camp. #bm100

A little look at the beast of a course from Barkley 2025. The new sections: ball bearing hill, is by Barkley standards not too bad at 1350ft climbed in 1 mile. Maybe more crazy is the new 1st descent that drops 1500ft in 0.8miles.
Also I was wrong, the 1st climb hasn't changed

From Sébastien’s report:

There were 16 books this year, the most ever.

Ratjaw is still only climbed in CCW loops.

2 big climbs were added, one is ball bearing hill, the other is probably a previously removed one brought back.

John Kelly with some course info for #bm100
March 21, 2025 at 6:35 PM
This is interesting stuff. If the course is actually 15% longer and more elevation, using 2024’s numbers that would put the 2025 course at roughly 26.5 miles and 14,700ft a loop. By far the toughest course on paper ever #BM100

Also definitely felt much more silence from camp than usual.
In the meantime, this information comes from the feelings on the camp.

this year was brutal -- looks like the fewest total loops completed (and average loops per runner) since 1995 #bm100

final tracker (more or less -- still don't know who was the tenth runner to complete the first loop) -- congrats on a fun time in Frozen Head, John Kelly! #bm100

The last two #BM100 have been ones for the history books, one for sucess and one for failure.
2025 saw:

fewest fun runs finished since 2006 (1)

2nd slowest loop1 for the leader (9:44)

fewest loop1 finishes EVER (10)

Runners have 2 hours to finish loop 3 for the privilege of dropping 2 straight sub 12 hour loops for a finish. Easy peasy lemon squeezy! Hopefully John packed a few Sonic Blasts! #bm100

Tomo and John have passed the Fire Tower; John about 30 minutes behind Tomo. #BM100

random #bm100 maths; for Tomo to go onto loop 3, he'd need a loop 3 time of 11:27:10; his prior loop 3 finishes were 15:13:08, 13:08:46, and 12:34:22, so this would be a bit of a stretch. However, he has a leisurely 15:27:10 to complete a fun run -- totally do-able.

What we know and speculation about the changes to the Barkley course in 2025.
Seeing the immediate lack of success this year means this should be fun. #BM100
Linking my previous course thread for those who haven't seen it, I think my prediction of "minor changes" was wrong.

If the number of books and their locations are similar to last year at all, that means they likely didn’t even make it past the fire tower and still took 24 hours to fail the loop and get back to camp. #bm100
Three runners have just come into camp after quitting on Loop 1.

Carl: Where the hell have you been?

Runner: Book 9.

I believe the only other time this happened was in 2021 with a US only field and tough course. That year Jared Campbell and Luke Nelson were the only fun run finishers in 39:04.

Loop 2 finishers in under 24:00
2025: 0
2024: 12
2023: 12
2022: 5
2021: 0
2019: 3
2018: 3

24 hours into the #BM100 no runners have completed Loop 2.

Any word of loop 2 runners reaching the fire tower? If they want to stay on 100 mile pace we should be seeing them soon. #bm100

Number of loop 1 finishers in under 12 hours:
2025: 6
2024: 20
2023: 30
2022: 28
2021: 12 (covid, US only)
2019: 23
2018: 14
2017: 17
2016: 27
2015: 19
One of these things is not like the other 😬

A point I saw on Twitter: The heavy storms that went through Frozen Head last weekend could have left the course a muddy mess, which would definitely have an impact on loop times.

The slowest loop1 of a 100mile finisher is John Kelly 9:29 in 2017 (at night). The last time a runner finished loop1 in over 9:30 and still finish a fun run under 36 hours to start loop 4 was Greig Hamilton in 2019. With the leaders taking ~9:45 we might not even see a loop 4 started #BM100
