As an Arizona native I've done all sorts of outdoor activities my entire life including authoring a hiking book. However, since 2005 I've focused mainly on nature and landscape photography of the American southwest, especially the Grand Canyon State.

Various places around Arizona
From the south rim of the Grand Canyon, just west of Pinal Point. Travertines in Havasu Creek in the Grand Canyon (Havasupai area). This exact spot is between Navajo Falls (aka Fifty-Foot Falls) and Little Navajo Falls. Canyon of the Waterfalls in the Superstition Mts. of southern Arizona (the actual drainage is Weekes Wash). This area is often dry but after a good rain the falls really put on a show. A saguaro and cholla skeleton in the South Maricopa Mts. Wilderness, which is within Sonoran Desert National Monument in southern Arizona (south of Phoenix).

Various places around the Southwest
Wild sunflowers at twilight on Robinson Mt. on the Coconino National Forest in northern Arizona (not too far from better-known Sunset Crater). Oak Tree at sunset in the El Tejon area of central California, near the base of Bear Mountain. Spring in the Colorado Rocky Mts. These wildflowers are near the Alta Lakes, and in the distance is Wilson Peak. Dawn at Elephant Arch in the Superstition Mts. of southern Arizona.

Lake Powell, from Alstrom Point on the Utah side looking west toward Gunsight Butte in Gunsight Bay. Beyond that, on the horizon, is Navajo Mt., which is mostly in Utah but also skirts a bit of Arizona. Wild Mexican Goldpoppies at Daisy Mt. on the Tonto National Forest, Arizona. Burro Creek in the White Mts. of eastern Arizona. Not too far downstream from this spot the creek feeds into the West Fork of the Black River. Imperial Sand Dunes in southern California (aka "Algadones Dunes"). This is a 30-second exposure at twilight with two remote flashes illuminating the scene.
