Have been spending time with the Ford Explorer. Some nice touches, and it generally drives well, but finding road/tyre noise excessive for an EV. I like the exterior design, though black does it no favours.

This is the Aion V, which will be the first model that GAC will introduce to Europe. It uses a 75.3kWh battery and gets a 521km WLTP range. Great rear passenger space too. Full review coming soon to CompleteCar.ie

This is the Aion Hyptec HT, featuring some familiar Tesla Model X vibes with those doors. The front doors are also automatic, but in the traditional plane. Rear motor produces 340hp and 430Nm. It uses an 83.3kWh LFP battery.

Sampling some of the latest wares from GAC. Let’s start with the Hyptec SSR. Fully electric supercar, generates 1,225hp and clocks 0-100km/h in 1.9 seconds.

You’ll be a while waiting for *that* Tesla Robotaxi to arrive. Meanwhile in Guangzhou, China…

Went to some wild places in 2024. One of the real highlights was driving a Skoda Enyaq across Morocco and spending a night under an incredible sky in the Sahara. I also visited the impressive Noor Power Station. You can watch a whole 40-minute video on it all on the Complete Car YT channel.

As a piece of design the Honda Zoomer remains one of the coolest scooters to come to the market since the 90s. The bare-bones utilitarian image still stands out today. I'm very glad to own this, and even if I didn't use it for the odd coffee run, l'm have it parked in a corner as a design piece.

Spending the next couple of weeks driving the Kia EV3. The design has already totally won me over, and it’s pretty good to drive too. Anything you wanna know about it?

Oooooof. The framing of this is pretty tone-deaf, but the line about "all freelance writers suck" might be the most tone-deaf of them all, especially given how full-time roles have been obliterated in our industry in recent years. There are a lot of good freelancers out there who deserve better!

I get personalised plates, but to me it’s way cooler (and more of a flex) to have such cars with standard/regular registration plates.
I’m embarrassed for the owner

Have been driving the updated Cupra Formentor this week. The visual updates make it look a bit more fussy around the front I reckon, PHEV powertrain is good for electric range.

I’ve the new BMW M5 on test this week and it’s quite the machine: 727hp, 1,000Nm, PHEV and bizarrely, a bargain in Ireland at just €137,055. It’s proper M car though I wish the V8 was more audible in the cabin. Any questions?

Verstappen really has so little respect for the sport. He makes a clumsy move, some might even think deliberately, causing a collision, rightly gets a penalty and then calls the stewards ‘stupid idiots’. #F1

Driving the Hyundai Santa Fe this week. Really like the design, it’s such a shift from previous generations. Hyundai’s design team have been on a roll lately.

It appears former Opel, Continental and Volkswagen China CEO Carl-Thomas Neumann has been dragged into the dieselgate scandal during his tenure at Continental. He currently sits on the board at Polestar and followed his role at Opel in a perhaps calculated move to green mobility start-ups
