Quality learning design, appears to be a dying skill
In my younger days, I made my mark in education as an innovator and trailblazer in the World of Learning technology, and often clashed with the opinions of the more senior, experienced educators, who I saw as holding education back. So I recognise there is a huge slice of irony, now that I am one of those ‘more senior’ educators, and my opinions will be perceived by many as holding things back.

Have submitted 2 proposals for presentations at #Moodle #MootGlobal25 in Edinburgh - one on creating multi-lingual moodles, and the other on creating personalised learning through FilterCodes and Generico Filters.

On Tue 29 April I am presenting at the (free) #Moodle Munch on how the excellent FilterCodes and Generico plugins can be used together to do some really clever things. I hadn't come across Generico until recently, but now that I have, the options are amazing.

A sustainable way to provide multi-lingual #Moodle courses
In my last post, I presented the argument for providing properly translated content, and in a post from a few months ago I listed a few ways that this can be achieved, detailing the advantages and disadvantages of each method. From that list of options, the best end solution was the approach of having a single course, and using the…

Why there is still a need to properly translate #Moodle based learning content
I support various global organisations with their Moodle based online provision, and as such many have a need to offer their courses in multiple languages. For over 10 years I have battled to find a way to effectively do this and blogged about this recently: I have finally come up with a workable solution (which will be my next blog post).

Trying to use AI to create video caption files in different languages for YouTube. At first I was impressed when I did this with 1 file, but now that I am trying to do this with 16 files, it is getting very confused - it keeps returning English files instead of Spanish, or losing the timestamps

Switching from Moodle Workplace to Moodle LMS
This post is a reflection on the process that I’ve been through where we have moved from Moodle Workplace to Moodle LMS and by sharing some of the experiences with you here, will help anybody else trying to do a similar thing. One of the organisations that I support has been using Moodle Workplace for Just over three years however we came to the conclusion that Moodle workplace was no longer suitable and they would actually be better off using Moodle LMS.

Yesterday I came off my road bike at high speed - luckily I managed to get away with relatively minor injuries (broken elbow) - so 1 handed typing for me for a bit, although will see how narration works as an alternative.

I'm excited to share something I've been working on... Moodle Registration Rules - a new plugin designed to help Moodle admins reduce spam registrations and improve security without relying solely on reCAPTCHA.

I am really starting to get into the excellent #Moodle Generico Filter - moodle.org/plugins/filt..., which when used in combination with moodle.org/plugins/filt... can do some really clever things - I can create very personalised elements within courses en masse
Moodle Plugins directory: Generico Filter
Generico is a simple filter for creating templates of code snippets and text that can be inserted into Moodle text areas.

#Moodle peeps: I have 2 user profile fields (with same settings), both drop down lists, with a default value set. neither appear on the user facing new account page. When a user creates an account, 1 of the fields gets populated in user_info_data but the other doesn't. Any ideas?

Just had a client from over 2 years ago email me claiming they had paid me twice for a piece of work. They didn't double pay me, I just submitted 2 invoices in quick succession. Curious as to what has triggered something their end to spot this after all this time

Today one of my clients is carrying out a move from #Moodle Workplace to Moodle LMS - it has taken a lot of work to get to this point, I am both nervous and excited at the same time, and looking forward to a beer this evening. I will blog about the process once all done.

I want to share my experience today with Google support, trying to get Gemini (their AI/plagiarism machine) turned off in my Google workspace account. That account is where I personally do all my work communication—I am an editor, and most of my work contracts explicitly ban any use of Generative AI

After many months of preparation, next week one of my clients will make the move from Moodle Workplace to Moodle LMS. I am unaware of anyone else making the move in this direction - so I have had to work through lots of unknowns. A busy few days ahead for me.
