I saw this pop-up and, ya know, Austin is kinda right here. The PS4 -is- probably the best deal in gaming right now. The library is huge, it's cheap and consoles are plentiful. PS4 physical games are in that 'nobody wants 'em' phase where they're mostly super cheap!

Rewatched The Matrix Resurrections and I do still quite enjoy what they made. Really fun, fascinating movie. The biggest miss for me remains the lack of Hugo Weaving…which alas, was down to scheduling, I suppose.

I felt like an idiot buying every single revision of the 3DS and 2DS back in the day but I guess it wasn’t the worst idea?

I'm often stunned by just how amazing Need for Speed 2015 looks even today. The visual quality they achieved at the time was truly groundbreaking - especially the integration between FMV and real-time graphics.

This is good to see. I've been driving a rental the past couple weeks (was in an accident - but just bumper damage, thankfully) and it's a VW with 90% touch driven controls. It's OK enough most of the time but if you need to quickly adjust/check something, it really sucks.
Amazingly, reaction times using screens while driving are worse than being drunk or high—no wonder 90 percent of drivers hate using touchscreens in cars. Finally the auto industry is coming to its senses.

Geez, LG is making a 52" version of their 5K2K ultrawide?! The 45" one that I have is already gigantic on just about any desk. 52" is gonna be wild. The 39" is more interesting for folks, I think - it follows their older 38" ultrawides, which are a great size!

It has not been a great week. The wife and son are down with the flu since Monday, so we cancelled all plans - I've managed to dodge it but am looking after them. No celebration this week...and my birthday is this weekend too. Needed a serious break from work and this is not what I envisioned!

Hey, my annual GOTY video is out! This year was tricky as I missed out of a number of games I wanted to play due to travel but I still found some real bangers and perhaps controversial picks.
It's not only the season to be jolly, it's the time of year where John Linneman reveals his favourite games of the last 12 months - and if you're looking for a list packed with triple-A titles, you may be disappointed... youtu.be/lLSs8y3BdLo

Oh heck yes! Also, this is just the highlights. Patrons get access to the 12 individual episodes and they're still amazing.
As is tradition, it is time to repost the Holiday special @dark1x.bsky.social and I made a few years ago. 12 Days of Phoenix, putting John through the darkest, most shameful games on the PS2 for a jolly good holiday time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Slkt...

Man, this breaks my heart to see. The employment situation in games is ridiculously difficult right now.
I am so deeply sorry to be in the position to have to pull this lever again, but I just watched my car get towed away and I don't really know what else to do anymore.

More details in the update & description, but if you're able to help out or share, we would be grateful beyond words.

This video took a while to make but it’s finally out! A lot of the capture work for Part 2 is complete as well. I’ll finish that after the holiday! Enjoy.

Really interesting results here. It seems that the largest failure point for modern TVs are LCD backlights. Either complete or partial failures.

Not to say this is a good thing but...does anyone here actually just work 40 hours a week and that's that? I'm not required to do anything extra or anything but it's just kinda naturally what I do. This seems like not so unusual overtime?

This game is indeed pretty darn good. Really surprised me especially considering its origins.

I played a whole lot of Doom games this year. Did a full Nightmare playthrough of Doom Eternal, which was amazing, and went through Dark Ages a couple times.

Thomas has found quite possibly the worst review I've ever read. This is truly next level here.
And let us never forget one of the worst game-reviews ever commited to paper. This was in ASM issue 3/91 and ooooh boy... I´ve made a quick translation for those not fluent in what the author here passes off as "german". Enjoy!

Can confirm - the game is now awesome on PS5 Pro. Looks like it was just a bug and has been corrected. The game is amazing so do check it out.
The PlayStation 5 Pro patch for bug fixes and optimization has been deployed!

GOTY is tough this year because I’ve been on the road so often thus played a lot of Deck and Switch 2 stuff. I’m finally played E33 and like it thus far but no chance I can finish it to determine if I like it enough for the list.

Man, I guess I need to find time for Expedition 33. The release timing was bad for me and the reliance on bad quality FMV bothered me a lot but it does seem to be worth playing.
