I’m considering starting guitar lessons again. I’m happy with my playing, but also feel like I’ve gotten really comfortable with a specific style that leans on a lot of the same scales, modes, and techniques. I want to push myself into the stuff I’m not as comfortable with.

Final stop, the Northern California coast at Crescent City. We had some seafood and collected driftwood and beach rocks as the sun set. Perfect way to wrap up the trip.

Drove down to NorCal to check out a real Redwood forest. These trees are HUGE! Felt like we were in a fantasy movie or something.

A tornado has been upgraded to EF5 based on non-structural damage for the first time since 2011, and I find out Rush is touring when I thought I’d never have a chance to see them live!?
I’m not sure what is happening today but I am all about it!

A good friend and former bandmate’s current band is doing really well and are getting ready to record an album. I just found out they want to adopt and include an old song I wrote, and I’ll be on the album as a feature! Will record it with them when I’m home for Christmas. Very excited! ^^

I think moving to a home in the suburbs has kick-started my “settling down older gay guy phase” early. I’m suddenly getting into things like gardening and interior decorating 😭

World sucks currently but hey we got some fun cabin trips around the corner. One here in Colorado and another in Oregon after that. Looking forward to quality time out in nature with my partner and friends. Yeah escapism doesn’t change anything, but I kinda need it right now.

Former drummer for Baroness has died. Listened to them a ton as a teen. Man it’s been a damn tough stretch for metalheads as of late. I was on the fence about going to some upcoming shows, but I’m realizing I need to see my favorite bands while I still can.

One big goal I have is to someday be in a band again. I enjoy playing guitar on my own, but what I really miss is writing songs with others and playing for an audience. It’ll be tough, but I’ll have to put my shyness aside and find a way to get involved in the local music scene.

Hearing about Brent Hinds’ death is really hard. I’ve been a huge Mastodon fan since I was a kid, and Brent was one of my biggest influences and inspirations when it comes to guitar. This is tough to process. Rest easy :(

Honestly, one of my favorite things about where we live is the view. Any time I have a rough day, I go to my favorite spots and just watch the sunset. Instant good vibes.

When you’re watching a crime documentary and start hearing movement by your back door, and you flip on the porch light ready to face what your brain has decided is obviously a serial killer in your yard, only to see a chonky raccoon staring back at you.

I haven’t given an update on my recovery journey in a while! It began around Christmas, and I’m happy to report that things are still going smoothly. No relapses or problems otherwise. Just slowly tapering down my meds until I’m off them. Looking forward to that day!

Today’s the big day! Our apartment was a good place to start out here in Colorado, but today we move into a house like we always wanted. So ready for this next chapter!
