One-scotch-in election thought: this Calvin Duncan win margin is crazy. I think it's a perfect storm of multiple events, not just one bad commercial or campaign move. The factor that stands out to me at the moment is that New Orleanians DO NOT LIKE Baton Rouge sticking its nose in a local race.

"California sober" but it's "California homophobia" (as seen on the Pontchartrain Expressway yesterday and yes, California plates).

I can't remember who on here was looking for Bat Mitzvah cards and apologies if the moment has passed but Harvey Target has some.

If you want a little insight into the New Orleans film industry of the past 30 years, as well as details about the NOLA Props liquidation, check out this blog post.
That’s a Wrap for NOLA Props
When I was coming up in the New Orleans film industry as a set dresser, there was a mythical name thrown about, like the king of all set dressers—or at least a local guy who had achieved escape vel…

I love that Martin Scorsese, celebrated auteur and one of the architects of modern American cinema, is not too cool to make silly TikToks with his granddaughter. www.tiktok.com/t/ZTMVGGbFf/

Annual Halloween hot take: full size candy bars aren't the move. I know it feels baller and all that but it works against the buffet style of the candy haul. You eat a little bit of this, a little bit of that. WTF are you supposed to do with a whole Snickers bar?

Anyone want to start an instrumental hardcore band called Skeleton Jammies?

I like to gauge my home improvement projects by how many runs it's gonna take to the hardware store. I'm calling this one a five-tripper.

Did y'all know that the I, Tonya director (Craig Gillespie) put out a movie called "Dumb Money" ? Never heard of it til I saw it buried in the 300 section of cable. Kind of a Social-Network-meets-The-Big-Short movie about the GameStop stock thing in 2021. STACKED cast.

Extremely niche New Orleans style guide point: there is no "e" in St. Roch Tavern.

Apropos of nothing, did you know that the director of PCU, Hart Bochner, was Ellis ("Hans, Bubbie!") in Die Hard?
I mean, PCU came out in 1994.

I have to shout out Katie who's been crushing it especially this year with heavy duty feature Q&As, and I would also like to use this post to say if you are a photographer who can write, or a writer who can take decent photos, you will be practically unstoppable as a journalist/storyteller.
Alfred Marshall was only 17 years old when he was arrested and sent to jail for a crime he did not commit. Now, he's a chapter organizer with Voice of the Experienced. He spoke to Associate Photo Editor Katie Sikora about his life and work

Unofficial at 40% (for mayor), so... not great?
Turnout in Orleans Parish for the presidential election last year was a shade under 60%. Will be interesting to see what the mayoral race numbers look like in relation.

It looks like Manny Chevrolet is getting twice as many votes as Frank Scurlock so at least that's a little flame of New Orleans freakdom still burning.

I just dipped a muffuletta in some hummus and I'm not saying it's a path to world peace or anything, but it was a revelation.

I'm just a simple man but I think one relatively easy and effective thing to do right now if you consider yourself a decent person who finds our current reality unacceptable would be to boycott the NFL. Stop buying official merch, stop going to games, stop tuning in.
