Jack White used his RRHOF induction speech to name-check influential bands and artists who are not yet inducted into the Rock Hall themselves.

In 1978, Mercury Records capitalized on Rush's breakthrough success by reissuing the band's first three albums in a triple LP collection, a promo copy of which I found at a record show for a mere twenty bones.

Ratt is a guilty pleasure. I'm not normally a fan of "hair metal" and a lot of Ratt's lyrics are 2nd person present mansplaining, but Warren DiMartini is an excellent lead guitarist with "sick riffs." And it's white vinyl!

By the time of "Animalize," Kiss was enjoying a revitalized career, though much of the music is forgettable and not as good as their hair-metal peers. Still, Paul sat down with Desmond Child and wrote a big hit that pushed this album into platinum territory.

The "Lick It Up" album is a bit of a step back but they found their formula to stay relevant for the rest of the '80s and stuck to it, just as glam metal was taking off. This album keeps up the energy and Vinnie's guitar solos are appropriately unhinged, keeping the material interesting.

"Creatures of the Night" sounds like the return to form as the band intended and the addition of two new members, Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent, adds the energy the prior few albums sorely lacked. The music rocks harder and I like the production, especially with a crisp bass guitar in the mix.

I don't think I've ever heard "Music from 'The Elder.'" I know the album has been raked over the coals and it's known as an oddball in the Kiss catalogue, but I can admit it's definitely interesting. I wouldn't call it "progressive," but it's definitely progressive for Kiss.

Next up is Unmasked, which turned out to be a prophetic concept in a few years with Lick It Up. Although it went gold, the music's power pop stylings kept American fans away and a US tour fell through. Although it didn't hit the US Top 40, it was a hit in several countries.
