Tiger beetle mating process is quite aggressive - male grabs the female by the thorax with its sharp mandibles. Females are larger, so they often wrestle them off.

The clearspot bluewing (Zenithoptera lanei) is a dazzling species that spends most of its time up in the rainforest canopy. These delicate dragonflies only come down to lower perches around noon, allowing us a brief glimpse of their beauty, especially when the sunlight hits their wings just right 👌

Frogmouth on a nest. So well camouflaged, I only saw it when it was right in front of me.

I was photographing a globular springtail (Dicyrtomina saundersi) in the garden, when a juvenile "elongate" springtail came scurrying into view. Remarkably, they're both reasonably in focus with this single shot. Two for the price of one! #collembola #mesofauna #macro #photograph

There's so much wrong in the world that it's overwhelming. But, if you can, spare a thought for the thousands of species which are silently slipping into extinction. This adorable weevil's just hanging in there, but how many more of our smaller creatures have we lost without noticing?

The new European Butterfly Red List is published today, with worrying findings. Over 1/4 (28%) of Europe’s 442 species are threatened with extinction or are close to being so. The situation is far worse for our 148 endemic species, 40% are now threatened or nearly so www.bc-europe.eu/webpage.php?...

I found this rove beetle friend on the rainforest floor. They are so so fast, you can imaging me chasing it around with my camera just rolling around in the leaf litter. Just unbelievable colors. In person the rainbow iridescence is stunning. It’s hard to say much here beyond just wow.
