Just heard that Raymond Head has died. He was one of the foremost scholars in Holst research - certainly for all his groundbreaking research into Holst’s involvement in Sanskrit and astrology. He was both a generous and honest colleague.

I am told shipments of my book are on their way by air/sea from the US, as OUP try to meet demand, which has exceeded their expectations. A reprint is also now underway. The key message is, if you want this for Christmas, ORDER IT NOW. It's had glowing reviews.
Also available on Kindle immediately.
This book means more to me than any other book I have written. I want to get copies into the hands of everyone who cares about opera or is interested in the broader cultural history of our country.

Please consider buying a copy. Thank you. 🙏

Have just been very cheered by this review of Apple Music Classical’s latest feature, Listening Guide, a project I’ve been very busy with over (I think rather more than) the past six months or so:

This is blood-boiling. Charles Rogers was awarded the Medal of Honor in Vietnam after being wounded three times leading the defense of a position.

Google his name and the entry below comes up. When you click, you'll see the page has been deleted and the URL changed to include "DEI medal."

Finally, it's in a major paper. The source I'd seen was trustworthy, and what it unfolded in greater detail struck me as one of the most horrific things yet about this racist regime. Shitting on dead woman and people of colour who served in the military. Deepest shame.
Arlington National Cemetery has scrubbed information about prominent Black, Hispanic and female service members and topics such as the Civil War from its website, part of an effort across the Defense Department to remove all references to diversity, equity and inclusion from its online presence.

Pentagon leaders have ordered that their websites and social media pages remove articles and images that “promote” DEI.

I’ve a soft spot for this recording, not least Norma Burrowes in the “Pie Jesu”. Seems ideal for a quiet sunny day after an intense week.

Trump is simply repeating a Putin talking point here. Russia has insisted on intervening in basic issues of Ukrainian sovereignty for more than a decade. Now Trump is doing Putin’s PR work, making unsustainable arguments for an unjustifiable invasion.

Trump levels stunning criticisms against Zelensky after Russia talks
Trump's comments about Ukraine's domestic politics will likely put more pressure on Zelensky ahead of possible negotiations to end the war.

I’ve only just discovered that the Cambridge Stravinsky Encyclopedia, to which I contributed several entries, has been made available in paperback since August - at a far more affordable price than the hardback. www.cambridge.org/gb/universit...
