My brother is a biochemist in Argentina studying pesticides and cancer. As in the US, the far-right gov there has completely defunded science, thus crowdfunding is needed. Please contribute and/or share: experiment.com/projects/help-us-expose-how-pesticides-weaken-human-immune-cells-in-the-lab
Help us expose how pesticides weaken human immune cells in the lab
The project is focused on the impact of worldwide pesticides (like glyphosate) on human health, particularly on the immune system. First, the immune system is crucial not only to prevent infections bu...

Just yesterday I was telling some students to continue demanding but not to expect our admin to take a public stance on the issues at hand, and yet today's Daily shows how the president of Princeton is doing exactly that, in a very public way: www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/p...

Proud of my brilliant colleague and friend

“I’m worried that the university’s decision could change how civil rights enforcement works,” Erickson said. “If the Trump administration can declare by fiat that the university is in violation of Title 6 protections and withhold funding on that basis — without due process …

Fallout from Columbia capitulation fuels fears about academic freedom
The outcry comes after an announcement on Friday that Columbia will institute new rules on student protests and discipline and bring in new campus police officers with arrest powers.

In the NYT right now, from a Justice Dept lawyer: “I will tell you right now that Columbia has not in my opinion — and the opinion of the Department of Justice — has not cleaned up their act,” Mr. Terrell said. “They’re not even close, not even close to having those funds unfrozen.”

It’s an extrajudicial killing of a university.

And it’s a self-inflicted mortal wound.

Both.

We are fucked. Columbia caved to fascist demands. How do they think this will satisfy them and the money will be returned?
This will lead to radical change in the nature of the university and, I hope, to mass resistance.

And just so we're clear, in Argentina it's not that a few generals fooled 30 million. There wouldn't have been a dictatorship without the support of a large portion of the public, and another large portion who didn't care enough to oppose it.
Seeing this video is impossible not to think of the Disappeared in Argentina. Agents in plainclothes, taking a man into an unmarked car, without a warrant or anything. It's terrifying.

New book w @joco513.bsky.social is out! Really proud of this work. We took TV eps about school and paired them with articles from Curr Studies from that same year, 1979-2020. We put theory to work, aimed mostly at students being introduced to the field

Can't recommend this highly enough. In my view, the best live action Superman ever. Yeah, including the classics.
All four seasons of SUPERMAN & LOIS are now available on MAX.

Already I’m depressed by the number of “Wow, this show is awesome! How did I not watch this until now?” posts that I’m seeing.

My 8yo is in DC with my wife. She left her backpack (w 🧸!) in the metro. Someone found it, found her public library card, contacted NYPL, left his contact, and they reached out to me to get the bag. AMAZING! All the love, once again, to #NYPL

Has anyone else gotten a desk rejection that took several months form one of the biggest journals in our field? I found out I'm not the only one and trying to see how systemic this is with this one journal. If it's happened to you, pm me.

Does every single office and every administrator have to send their own Happy Holidays email? Can't they just send one on behalf of the university? Nevermind, that would be efficient.

Just got a paper rejected after an internal review that took them 5 months. So disrespectful to take this long to not even send it out for review.

I've said this before, but we have too many pop culture stories that are "All the experts told me it couldn't be done, but I believed in myself and proved them all wrong." We need more "I believed in myself, but they are experts for a reason and I was a dumbass."
