you do not want to be *in* the scene. it’s better to be scene-adjacent. exist at the edge of a few scenes, and perhaps even, find a friend group that dabbles in all of the ones you like but isn’t attached to any of them. indeed, the friend group is of a much higher aspiration than any scene

i think a major part of why I feel so much freer here is that the entire startup/VC part of my graph isn’t on here yet. i’ll probably always be a entrepreneur in some way, but damn, I am so over that culture

was already considering leaving twitter and reallocating my energy to private, cozy spaces, mostly IRL and group chats. maybe i’ll use this opportunity to go bluesky-only and see how that feels. if nothing else, I think we’ll experience a multi-month new energy honeymoon phase here

for the last year and a half i’ve taken my practice quite *seriously* and in the process I think cut myself off from a lot of joy and compassion. both seem to be emerging again, and it feels very very good. and i remain grateful for the year of seriousness. it’s what I needed

makes a lot of sense to first siphon the graph via lookalike app and then build new interfaces that expand our sense of what’s possible on top of that graph. trying to do both at the same time is too difficult and has repeatedly failed
