a younger chrysanthemum courier, sat on their knees on the floor of their bedroom. they worriedly examine the pictures in a storybook, surrounded by various writing utensils and sketch-filled papers. the bedroom is warmly lit from a lone window. it's too bright to see what's outside. lined paper, with a floral damask pattern bordering the left. the paper is stained and smudged. the text reads: chrysanthemum, on perfection. so what if i'm not the best, huh? it doesn't matter what the stupid drawing looks like. it's just schoolwork. "draw a fairytale." easy grade. real chump change. whatever. who cares! there are a lotta other things i could use help with. important things. i'm not too good with numbers. i'm better with reading, but not as good as my dad. he says i could be, with practice, but what does he know? it's fine. it doesn't matter. it's just an assignment, yeah? so it doesn't matter how it comes out. it doesn't need to be good. i don't need to be good. (but i want to. i really, really want to.)
