50 years ago today, a tube driver went to work with £270 in his pocket, which he said was to buy his daughter a car.

A few hours later, 43 people were dead after that same driver careened into a wall at Moorgate station.

Why? Well, nobody knows.

Fifty years after the Moorgate Tube disaster, one question remains
It was the worst crash in London Underground history, killing 43 people in a storm of metal. Was it suicide?

Foreign wars, spiking inflation and the second act of a pandemic: historians will have no shortage of things to say about Joe Biden’s presidency.

Using a variety of data sources, The Times gets the measure of the past four years. How does Biden’s America compare to that of his predecessors?

🧵 Mo Salah is playing some of his best football at the age of 3️⃣2️⃣ but will Liverpool offer him a new deal? The amazing @hkhaliqueloonat.bsky.social and I looked at how forwards age and the risks involved offering older players lucrative contracts @thetimes.com

Why Liverpool may be unwilling to give Mo Salah the deal he wants
Given the 32-year-old’s present form, the case for meeting his contract demands may seem convincing, but the stats show a sharp drop-off once forwards reach the age of 33

Insightful chart and commentary highlighting the difficulties govt are having on the comms side.

Not many 'positive stories' cutting through, but a number of 'negative' ones are.
🧵Ahead of Starmer’s speech we shared with @sophyridge.bsky.social new polling on what cut through in Labour’s first months in office & how much people liked it. What we found was interesting! First there was one stand out success - raising the minimum wage, high cut through, v.popular.

London (52,202) had almost twice the number of reported mobile thefts that New York City had in 2023 (29,200).

But how does our capital fare against other European cities? Answer: not well.
