My groups tend to play around lvl 1-6. I’ve recently found martials to be more chill to play than casters. We have long adventuring days, and while the resource management of a caster is a cool challenge, dispatching things with steel without agonising about burning a slot is more fun to me nowadays

Can any D&D veterans fill me in on the original design concept behind the Ranger class’ magic? Why can they cast spells?
Many folks in my circles and some online have always had an axe to grind with the fact Rangers have spellcasting, so I’m just interested!
