Ildemaro Vargas (2020-2021, 2022)

Vargas appeared in 38 games for Arizona in 2025 in what was his third stint with the team.

Ryan Brasier (2025)

Brasier was drafted out of Weatherford College, the same school Jake Arrieta started his collegiate career at before finishing at TCU.

Tucker Barnhart (2023)

A two-time Gold Glove winner with Cincinnati, Barnhart was signed to a two year deal before the 2023 season. He only made it to August before being released after hitting .202 in 43 games. He appeared in 8 games for Texas last season.

Ryan Meisinger (2021)

Meisinger appeared in seven August games in 2021. He allowed 10 earned runs in 7.1 innings pitched. The Cubs lost all seven games he appeared in.

Genesis Cabrera (2025)

The Cubs were the second of Cabrera’s four MLB teams last season. He is currently a Minnesota Twin going into the offseason.

Tony Wolters (2021)

Wolters last played professionally in 2023. Following that season, he was hired by the Rockies to be a coach in the Arizona Complex League.

Jose Cuas (2023-2024)

Cuas pitched in 25 games during the 2025 season between Philadelphia’s AAA team and Atlanta’s AA team. He was released in August and is now a free agent currently pitching in the Dominican Winter League.

Gage Workman (2025)

A Rule 5 pick last December, Workman was returned to Detroit after brief stints on Chicago’s North and South Sides. He finished his 2025 season in AAA Toledo hitting .229/.324/.482 with 15 homers and 47 RBI.

Edwin Rios (2023)

Rios hit .246/.337/.468 with 26 home runs and 94 RBI for Cincinnati’s AAA Louisville in 2025.

Tyson Miller (2020, 2024)

Miller pitched in just two games for the Cubs in 2020 and bounced around with five organizations after that. He returned to Chicago in 2024 and held hitters to a .178 BAA with a 2.15 ERA. He was with AAA Iowa in 2025 but struggled to a 6.27 ERA.

Zach McKinstry (2022)

Acquired from LAD for Chris Martin, McKinstry struggled in his 47 games as a Cub. He hit .206 and was traded to Detroit before camp broke in 2023. He became an All Star with the Tigers in 2025.

Alfonso Rivas III (2021-2022)

Where is he now? Rivas spent the 2025 season with Union Laguna of the Mexican League where he was teammates with Frank Schwindel. He hit .215 in 33 games.

Ryan Tepera (2020-2021)

Tepera received a 10th-place vote on the 2020 NL MVP ballot when writer Rick Hummel mistakenly clicked Tepera’s name instead of another nearby name on the list.
