P.J. Higgins (2021-2022)

Higgins counties to work to make it back to the big leagues. He’s spent the last two years at Cincinnati’s AAA affiliate in Louisville. He recently re-signed with the Reds on a minor league deal with an invite to spring training.

Manuel Rodriguez (2021-2022)

Rodriguez was traded to Tampa Bay in August of 2023, he has appeared in 71 games for them with a 2.12 ERA. His ERA was 4.88 with the Cubs in 34 games.

Jon Berti (2025)

Berti led all major leaguers with 41 steals in 2022 with Miami. He was released by the Cubs in August and remains a free agent.

Jared Young (2022-2023)

Young spent 2025 in the Mets organization hitting .303/.402/.566 in the minors and .186/.234/.488 in the big leagues (23 games).

Hector Neris (2024)

Neris appeared in 35 games last season with the Braves, Angels, and Astros. He is currently a free agent.

Billy Hamilton (2020)

Hamilton has 24 career home runs. He has hit multiple home runs against two pitchers: Jameson Taillon and Jon Lester. He was signed by the Cubs out of the Mexican League last year and appeared in six games at Iowa, but never made it back up to Chicago.

Conner Menez (2022)

Menez pitched one inning for the Cubs in May of 2022. It was his final MLB appearance. He pitched in Japan in 2023 and Mexico the last two seasons.

Michael Fulmer (2023, 2025)

The former Rookie of the Year and All Star pitched in 58 games for the Cubs in 2023 and two games last year.

Adrian Sampson (2021-2022)

Sampson pitched in 31 games (24 starts) for the Cubs with a 3.03 ERA. He was worth 2.3 WAR in 21 games in 2022. He was with the Cubs organization in 2023 but never made it back to Chicago. He made 19 starts in the minors for Washington in 2025.

Michael Rucker (2021-2023)

Rucker pitched in 96 games between ‘21-‘23 topping out with 41 appearances in 2022. He last pitched in 2024 with Philadelphia’s and Washington’s AAA teams.

Andrelton Simmons (2022)

Simmons was a 4x Gold Glove winner with the Braves and Angels before coming to the Cubs. He hit an anemic .173/.244/.187 in 34 games before being released at age 32. He’s been out of affiliated ball since, but continues to play in Mexico and Venezuela.

Tomás Nido (2024)

The Cubs brought in Nido in favor of Yan Gomes to provide more consistency from the backup catcher position in June of 2024. It didn’t work out. He hit .128/.143/.234 in 17 games and was released in August.

Zach Davies (2021)

Davies started the infamous combined no-hitter (followed by Tepera, Chafin, and Kimbrel) on 6/24/21. The Cubs would lose their next 11 games and would go from nine games over .500 and in first place to two games under and in fourth place.

Brandon Workman (2021)

Workman appeared in 10 games for the Cubs in 2021. He was 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA. His best season was 2019 with Boston when he appeared in 73 games with a 1.88 ERA, 13.1 K/9, 10-1 record, and 16 saves.

Tom Cosgrove (2025)

Cosgrove pitched in two games for the Cubs at the big league level and 40 in AAA last season. He is currently a free agent.

Garrett Cooper (2024)

Cooper hit .270/.341/.432 in 12 games in March and April 2024 before being DFA’d to make room for Patrick Wisdom’s return from the IL. He appeared in 35 games for the Braves’ AAA affiliate in 2025 and retired from professional baseball in September.

Eric Stout (2022)

Stout was born in Glen Ellyn and attended St. Francis in Wheaton. He pitched in two games for the Cubs in 2022. Last season, he was in the Chinese Baseball League and made 25 starts for the TSG Hawks going 11-4 with a 2.23 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.
