Isaac Asimov's Hari Seldon concluded that Trantor's 40b population was enough to develop a working model of Psychohistory. I think Asimov was off by a factor of 10 and that 4b is enough and some entities have been working on it and are achieving a degree of success.

*sigh* not even a week gone by this time.

*taps sign*

Just spit-ballin' but if every mass layoff required execs to take responsibility and lose their positions too (and lose their retention bonuses), I wonder if we would see less layoffs? I suspect other solutions would appear somehow
The sad part of all this is that those actually responsible, those who think they understand, or even set, the industry trends at the executive level, are rarely, if ever, the ones losing their jobs.

They just get that next bonus because the spreadsheet was positive, and then start the cycle again.

BG3. Judging from her constant commentary as our group roams about the land, I think Lae'zel wants blood more than Astarion.

Really enjoying my BG3 run with an Eilistraee-themed Bladesinger. Think they made the class just to honor that lesser-known god.

@ragso.bsky.social @silirrion.bsky.social If Equinox's story will mix horse riding and occult mystery, perhaps Ragnar could be coaxed into penning the story for a segment now and then?

FFXIV patch day downtime so playing yet another run in Baldur's Gate 3.

After 1800 hours in BG3, I have concluded that the games' only error was not making Ketheric Thorm the final boss. Orin and Gortash are dull with little background, and the Netherbrain is just a 'thing'. Thorm has a long, tragic history in the area he controls. Rafael is well done, too, I'll admit.

4/ As long as the judges can show they can physically ground the ppl carrying out the Executive Branches' orders in opposition to court rulings, then I think we'll start to see some reality and force the DOJ etc. to show all their cards and either fold or descend into chaos...

Anyway, my two bits.

3/ When I see one or more judges actually issue Contempt of Court pronouncements and actually put said individuals behind bars for a bit despite Trump's opposition, then I will say that some rubber has met the road in terms of real pushback.

Doesn't have to be big names. (4/)
March 22, 2025 at 3:24 PM
2/ The left media then posts about judges' rulings, initially, and then repeatedly the following day with different titles and different ppl, all covering the exact same events, as if focused on clicks more than any posting new content.

I'll start paying attention again when I see the following:
March 22, 2025 at 3:21 PM
1/ Getting a bit tired of no real pushback yet from the Justice Dept. or from Dem politicians.

Judges making rulings meant to stop Exec branch from firing ppl and downsizing most govt depts are plentiful, like wind off a horses' backside. And then the media's coverage...(2/)

Got my old Tyan S2466 server (2003, 2x AMD MP 2400's) running on MX Linux - Fluxbox with just 2 gb ram. Hasn't had network access for years until now since the other boot drive is a duel boot Win2k/WinXP system. Even the old 3Ware controller and it's 3 drives are recognized and useable!

I feel like the Mule from Asimov's Foundation series is loose in the government.

Too many Youtube streamers nowadays will title their vids as if they are playing some popular game but they are playing something else, like "Exploring Baldur's Gate 3 - Tactical Combat, Deep Choices & Unforgettable Stories" when they are actually playing a golf game or the like...

FFXIV. Ages since I did the oft-maligned ARR patch content and I find the flow of conversations and adding allusions to future content smoothly done compared to much of the 'small talk' of Dawntrail, which has the references of things to come but the connecting interactions with NPC's is lacking.

Hmm, when did Microsoft start allowing Zen 1 CPU's to install Windows 11? Refurbished my old Biostar B350GT5 and Ryzen 7 1700 from 2017 and it happily took a new, clean 24H2 install with no complaints. I suspect MS will allow even older stuff thru the gate before the Win10 cutoff date.

Would be nice to see more restraining orders issued for these non-govt clowns grabbing a lot of the govt databases. Judicial system is running way too slow atm.

From a modding point of view, Baldur's Gate 3 will likely take over from Skyrim as the most modded game ever, and with solid help from Larian's mod integration support.

FFXXIV. Yoshi-p addressed the issue of the add-on that enables mapping all the chars tied to an account but at this point can only threaten legal action against those caught. Well aware that the real solution is to move that data to server side but that will be a major code change and take time.

Some term limits as well as age limits for govt would be a small help. Scotus 18yr, congress 4x4 for 20yr, senate 4x6 for 24 yr. And can't run if term will start after 70th birthday. Enough to learn how govt works but not to get totally entrenched for life.

Both nVidia and AMD''s newest GPU lineups are really 'meh'. AMD is using model numbers that might confuse buyers into thinking they are buying nVidia GPU's, while nVidia seems to think that saying AI when talking about their products allows for price hikes and little real improvement.

FFXIV Dawntrail. I hope at some point the poor Viera crafter Zoraal Ja brought to Earthenshire becomes part of some side quest. She's still there, in one of the crafting buildings, looking very pensive.

Walking along neighborhood road approaching major feeder lane. Flock of grackles all over the road and on the trail alongside. Car approaches and about 4 birds in the way move just enough to avoid car, rest are safe where they are. Me reaching the same point - whole flock freaks and flies away...

Best BG3 vid I've seen has a clip where a Wild Magic Barbarian caused everyone to become cats and dogs at the end of the Shadowfell Balthazar fight, including Nightsong. She stays that way almost to the end of the subsequent scene.

I think MS allowing ppl to install Win11 at this point is just data collection, not opening up the dam. They want to see what sorts of hardware are on PC's ppl -want- to move to 11. I expect they will ultimately make room for some common cases they see and still block the rest come next fall.
