I don't know about you, but I enjoyed President Musk's first oval office press conference. He even brought his kid and some sort of orange puppet to entertain him. He's a nice dad.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

Please consider taking Anshul up on his offer. Many of us are waiting for the results of this cool project ;)
Would be happy to be a faculty mentor for PD candidates with interests in our labs work. We're building a foundation of 10,000s of highly interpretable, robust, efficient deep learning models of multiple layers of gene regulation across fetal and adult cell states. 1/

You know, when the AI comes for our jobs, people who can manipulate little marine creatures with actual tools will be the last people left with jobs....man career advice got weird these last few years.

Its paid summer intern time!
Come join us for a summer of ML, regulatory genomics, and human genetics. Also maybe a crazy idea involving neanderthals.

Gotta say, nothing brings back the pain of opportunities missed like seeing the rounds of fall academic job openings.

Two excellent pre-prints today reminding us how hard it can be to translate genetic findings to the clinic (but still excellent work ;) )

Congrats to Karikó and Weissman on the Nobel for mRNA modifications! Their work was not appreciated by the university or reviewers at the time, but has saved millions of lives. A great example of the value of discovery science and reminder to not limit academic research to immediate applications.

It's fun to get to share our new study in Science tracking nearly 4,000 Galápagos finches using genomics over 30 years! Interested in how genomics can teach us about contemporary evolution? 1/

Let's all say it again -- distance on a UMAP is not good evidence for cell type similarity and I'm not going to be a happy reviewer when I read that.
