Newsom: They did not expect California. They did not expect all of you. They thought we were going to write an op-ed, have a candlelight vigil, maybe do a rally. They poked the bear and the bear is poking back

Whenever you abstract social interaction, say in social media or while driving in a car, people act nastier to each other. The goal of society should be to encourage face to face interactions in all scenarios. It's really difficult to be an ass when you're face to face.

It's been one year since the smashing success of Caltrain electrification. We now have data showing electrification, level boarding, and through-running would cut travel time on the San Bernardino Line by 1/3. Your move, Metrolink. calelectricrail.org/electrolink-...

While these have been captured before, never with the details of the sun’s chromosphere, which makes this one the first!

If Pfizer released a cure for cancer people would call it a hoax that caused autism. All of the cancer patients would keep using old treatments and complain about how much money the Pharma industry makes.

On the contrary, there's no evidence that fare-free transit reduces driving (or emissions).

However, there is a *lot* of evidence that improving transit service reduces driving.

This article gets some very basic facts wrong about high-speed rail. $110 B is the cost for the entire 494 mile SF-LA project, which includes over 20 miles of tunnels - not just the Central Valley Section, which is estimated to cost around $30 B. Vox overstates the cost by more than 3x.

Social media politics means people decide to say something shitty and inappropriate for clout. There needs to be more consequences for abusing online spaces with your vitriol.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

The city of LA has removed three of our crosswalks in the past two weeks amid a budget crisis. We're now getting requests to put in crosswalks that were planned and committed to by LADOT, then rescinded for lack of funds ... where is the money for removals coming from?
As I noted a couple years ago in CityLab, cities that rush to remove guerrilla sidewalks end up reinforcing activists' claims.

Local agencies clearly *can* quickly adjust street designs -- they just choose not to.
The Case for Guerrilla Crosswalks
Activists are painting unsanctioned DIY crosswalks at intersections in cities like Seattle and LA. Transportation officials should understand why.

In his first term, Trump's Department of Transportation held up key funding for Caltrain electrification for more than a year, stalling the project and driving up costs. But even the toughest critics of good projects come around eventually. Expect the same for California High Speed Rail.
Glad to see the Trump Administration finally get on board with a key piece of California's @cahsra.bsky.social high-speed rail project!

It’s about time.
