I find nature fascinating and inspiring - there's always so much to learn!
I love photographing plants, especially orchids.
Also like butterflies, dragonflies, insects, fungi, trees, and, of course, birds 😊

I gave in... here's a collection of some of the amazing flowers I've seen this year...
Mostly orchids, and I'm not naming them, you have to work it out 😉
#WildflowerHour #FavouritePlant
Looking forward to finding them all again, and more, in 2026 🍻

Some early signs of Spring in a local woodland; Hazel buds, Hawthorn buds, Dog's Mercury, Bluebell shoots, Lords and Ladies, and a sizeable colony of Early Purple orchid rosettes.

Cherry Plum blossom, White Comphrey, False Mayweed, Small Nettle - not too long till Spring 🙂

I finally got a pic of the Scaup in Milton Country Park in nice light, though it was a little distant.

For today's #BirdOfTheDay, here is a gorgeous Waxwing, from February 2017. There were hundreds around Cambridge that year, and this flock were feeding on Rosehip berries along the Guided Busway.
Not so many this year!

An Anna's hummingbird for #BirdOfTheDay
I took this in Phoenix, Arizona in 2012. They move so quickly, and only seem to rest for a matter of seconds.
This one was reasonably acceptable out of about 200 attempted shots!

On New Year's Day I cycled around Cambridge and found 23 wild or naturalised flowers in bloom!
Given the snow that's forecast for later this week, I might need to 'borrow' some of these to make #TheWinter10 for next Sunday's #WildflowerHour 🙂

I got half of #TheWinter10 for this week's #WildflowerHour. A nice, pinkish Yarrow, Black Nightshade having a second bloom, Red and White Clover, and the first Primrose I've seen since Spring 🙂

A Christmas-special for #WildflowerHour this week...
This stunning phalaenopsis legoconstructio appeared on our lawn!
Actually, a fantastic present from my daughter, and only a few months to go before the start of the UK orchid season...
🥳🎉

Any #Fungi experts able to help with the identification of these please?
I've been through my books, and I'm still stuck!

The sun shone yesterday just enough for me to capture a few surviving flowers in bloom for this week's #WildflowerHour #TheWinter10 challenge 🙂
It was such a nice change from the rain, I even took a proper camera 😅

All I've got for #WildFlowerHour this week is a nice pair of orchid rosettes - a 🐝 and a 🦎. Can you tell which is which? 😉

Day 2 of our #AdventCalendar, and it's a Late Spider Orchid seen in Kent - a star of our Orchid Garden of England daytrips. Like several folk who joined us this year, you could say it with flowers this Christmas for the orchid-lover in your life - a daytrip makes a great present!

I think this is a naturalised Adria Bellflower, which I found growing on a wall in Cambridge earlier this week.
Lovely little thing!

A few fungi for #WildFungiHour / #WildFlowerHour...
All from our local park.
Two years ago I counted over 50 Collared Earthstars!
My favourite are the Shaggy Scalycaps, almost over now.
