Does anyone else find it weird that ‘having met with the owners of Canada’ didn’t even get a chuckle? As an owner, I thought that was an elegant and funny way of diffusing the crazy.

I am Canadian. I know she’s from the Peace - so not Québécoise. My only issue was with her being referred to as Carney’s predecessor and you have reminded me that she was briefly his predecessor, so thanks. :)

It’s a bit distressing that many American commentators’ grasp of Canadian politics so approximate. In this case, Carney’s predecessor was Justin Trudeau, not Madame Freeland - she was finance minister and deputy PM. Upside: at least PBS is not NYT confusing Premiers and Prime Ministers.
