An unprecedented order forces a co-op and its members to fund an outdated coal plant. This is an unfair burden and an unconstitutional “taking.” 💸⚡🚫

#PeoplePower #5thAmendment #DirtyPower #Unconstitutional
Coal plant owners say DOE ‘emergency’ order to run it violates Constitution
By mandating the generator’s availability to operate, the order “constitutes both a physical taking and a regulatory taking” of property by the government without just compensation or due process, they said in a request for rehearing.

🌲👥🚫 MN must protect its forests and communities from the harmful biomass pellet industry. This industry causes severe noise, air pollution, and health risks, especially in low-income areas. It clear cuts forests for coal plants in Europe, offering little economic benefit & harming local residents.
Europe gets ‘green energy.’ These Southern towns get dirty air.
In Louisiana and Mississippi, people living near mills producing wood pellets say that they’re getting sick.

TELL Governor Walz: Protect MN's 100% Carbon Free Energy Law ⋆ CURE
In 2023, Minnesota passed landmark legislation that commits its energy system to running on “carbon free” electricity by the year 2040. The legislation contains compromises and “off ramps” for small utilities should they have a hard time complying, but the essential definition of “carbon free” is very clear: “‘Carbon-free’ means a technology that generates electricity […]

Peatlands are protecting Minnesota's ecosystem. Scientists are working to restore them
While peatlands occupy just 3% of Earth's land surface, scientists say they store about 30% of the planet's land-based carbon. That's more than double held by the world's forests, according to the Nature Conservancy.
