World Curling has dropped the potential playoff charts. Rachel Homan is in with a win and out with a loss and can only play SWE or SUI in the SF. Brad Jacobs is guaranteed 2nd and in the SF plays NOR 50% of the time, ITA 25% of the time, and GBR 25% of the time

NORWAY HAS BROUGHT BACK THE PANTS TO HEAL THE SPORT IN A TIME OF NEED

Reports of Rachel Homan’s demise were greatly exaggerated

Going to start charging $200/hour as emotional labour to explain what happened today to my non-curling friends

So there’s going to be people online the next few days who try to convince you that the noise in the curling venue is distracting for the players and the players don’t want it. Don’t let them fool you; the players have been asking for this type of atmosphere for years

Women’s Draw 2:

-CHN is a win GB probably had to have
-both DEN and JPN showing their volatility in that game, both need more consistency or will be in trouble
-USA strategy to go all out for blank in 9 and never 2 was odd to me and it cost them
-gonna be a long week for ITA

Mathilde Halse and Tracy Fleury locked in a battle of thirds who start their delivery with their hips raised

Draw 1:
-Classy win by GB
-Crowd will be a positive for Italy all week. I like their chances more now than I did before
-USA looked and played nervous
-that’ll be GER’s best game of the week and Canada weathered it. Awful strategic mistake on last shot cost them

Olympic men's curling kicks off in a few minutes. Here's my attempt at a profile of Team Brad Jacobs, Canada's "Golden generation," and how good the international field has become in recent years (h/t @cullenoncurling.bsky.social) nationalpost.com/sports/olymp...
At the 2026 Olympics, Canada's 'golden generation' confronts a multipolar men's curling field
As the sport grows and the field deepens, Canadian men's curling is no longer a guaranteed Olympic superpower

Good weather of the storm for Canada through 5. That’s as good as you’ll see the Germans play for the first 39 rocks. Unlucky for them that #40 was a bad miss. We’ll see if Canada pulls away in the second half here

Rasmus Wranå now becomes the seventh curler with two Olympic golds, joining Morris and Lawes of Canada and his four countrymates Norberg, Lund, Lindahl, and Le Moine.

He’ll have a chance to become the first person ever with 3 in the men’s event.

If I were a betting oddsmaker I’d think it would be compelling to set an O/U on the number of times Korey Dropkin says “let’s go” in the course of a mixed doubles game

Yeah it's weird with curling in particular. A speed skater that had the chance to win a medal comes 13th and everyone goes "hey man, great try" and no one is like "we need to look seriously into Speed Skating Canada and their entire process!"

But we lose in curling and everyone's like BURN IT DOWN
It's actually surprising how many people still subscribe to the theory that it's our birthright to win gold medals in curling. This is like 1990s thinking.

Was it the best week for Brett and Joce? No.

Do we need a referendum about it? No. They were Canada’s best rep, this was a stacked field that had at minimum 6 teams that could comfortably win gold, and some good teams were gonna miss the playoffs. Unfortunately it was them.

It’s a very difficult path ahead for Canada and a lot needs to break right. I believe this is how it needs to all shake down

Jocelyn Peterman does it again, insanely good draw. And not lost is that Brett Gallant made a beauty the shot before which hopefully spurs him on for the remainder as he’s continued to struggle a bit here today

Huge shot from Joce

Very interesting draw at the MD there. The teams at 4 losses will be very unhappy that Italy managed to steal on a power play against Norway, but with the USA losing to Korea and Canada also at 3 losses we could be heading for a real cluster

Canada finally got a handle on the ice in the second half of that game and you gotta hope they can take that into tomorrow. Even with this skid, remarkably they pretty much control their own fate here. Win your remaining 3 games and you’re in
February 7, 2026 at 7:45 PM
So close for Jocelyn. That felt like, given how the last 36 hours have gone, a shot that could’ve turned the tide for Canada. Get it to 6-5 and shake off what’s come before. And she missed it by 0.5 of an inch
February 7, 2026 at 6:55 PM
Brett Gallant really struggling in this current Canada slide, getting significantly outcurled by his opposing number the last 2 games and so far here. 5-0 after 2 is not a death sentence but it will be if they don’t get a handle on the ice quicker in games
February 7, 2026 at 6:30 PM
The upside for Canada: win out and you’re fine and all your remaining games are against teams below you in the table

The downside: one of those teams is a former World #1 and one of them won the Worlds less than 2 years ago
