I’ve lived on this farm in rural Ohio for over 50 years. Artist, writer, farmer. I’m baffled by trump supporters. I’m here to learn how to help turn the tide. Not selling anything.

Peebles, Ohio.

Health care deserts. Young people leaving. Food deserts. Not enough job opportunities. Attacks on public education. While we fork over big bucks for a football stadium, Ohio continues to leave rural communities out.

We must do better by rural Ohio.

Starting today, I’m launching a four-day, 15-stop listening tour across Ohio. Across the state, I’m meeting with families, teachers, and local leaders to hear what’s working—and what’s not. Because the best ideas come from the people living them.

“They want to stop SNAP from buying sugary snacks but that’s how I did Easter. And Christmas Stockings. And snack day at school. I just don’t understand how so many can support gutting it.”

The sort-of silver lining that emerges from an analysis of Erdogan's Turkey, which may be where the U.S. is heading: An authoritarian regime struggles to maintain its popularity because loyalty is rewarded over competence and that causes things to fall apart.

But here's the bad news:

Utah boasts two milestones in the same week, becoming the first state to outlaw pride flags in all public schools (and on all government property) and to ban fluoride in drinking water.

Hmmm. What belief system predicts both intolerance and a rejection of science?

I know this maybe isn’t the most egregious thing in this bill, but I’m sorry, climate change is NOT a “controversial issue.” This is pure ideological nonsense. It will only hurt OH colleges and universities. You want grads to stay in OH? Good luck.

SB 1 passed the Ohio House today. It is much more dangerous than this story indicates: profs can be fired if they mention "controversial" topics in class, such as immigration, electoral politics, or foreign policy. The end of academic freedom.

“For classroom discussion, the bill would set rules around topics involving “controversial beliefs” such as climate policies, electoral politics, foreign policy, diversity and inclusion programs, immigration policy, marriage, or abortion. S.B. 1 would only affect Ohio’s public universities.”

yep. and this is the basic problem with trump being psychologically incapable of perceiving a positive sum relationship. everything is a dominance game for him.
No one in DC can bargain in good faith with Trump because he will not follow laws passed by Congress.

No one internationally can bargain in good faith with Trump because he will not respect agreements made by the United States.

Being a counterparty just makes you a target for another shakedown.

Don't know how exactly we're going to talk about this but abandoning our commitment to democracy here/abroad should be seen as a disqualifying, de-legitimizing action by Trump. Promoting democracy is our central purpose. It's not an option for someone who calls himself President to walk from it.
