Functional and colorful ceramics for everyday use is my way of expressing creativity and sharing a smile.
Here are the glazed Georgia red clay. I love the fired color natural too. I only wish I made the planters larger since I doubt I’ll go back to using the clay body again. I really really prefer a smooth grog-less surface to work with.

Hoping this custom order of pasta bowls and water pitcher brings smiles. I’m loving the ethnic vibe.

Lizella clay- I just had to try it since I’m living in GA now. Spoiled by mainly using porcelain, that rough grog clay is challenging my hand The hardest part on my hands is centering and opening. Once I work up enough slurry it’s much easier to pull and shape. Gotta get some gloves right away. 😁

When my loving parter accidentally 2 classic Corning ware casserole dishes, I decided it was time to make my own version. So I’ve been experimenting with standard 630 clay. This casserole has two lids.

I don’t often get to see how my ceramic art makes a statement in this art collector’s home. It’s such an honor. #ceramicartist #artcollection #homedecorating #blackceramicartist

It’s very satisfying to experiment with creativity and learn from the successes and failures. These double sided coasters taught me what was possible while considering a design and decorations technique that is kiln safe and fit the decor of my NBHS classmate’s collection of ceramics.

Finished planters are stacking up. So I keep asking myself when I’m gonna get around to my houseplant repotting project
Dribbled a bright green glaze just for fun.

Several years ago I made the largest pot ever. This time I made its twin carved with the same elements I loved from the great Nigerian potter, Ladi Kwali-beetles, lizards, shields. While the smaller version awaits its new home, it’s next to its bigger one just for fun.

I rarely make mugs, but when I do it’s a duo purpose one with a loose tea strainer. It’s so time consuming to keep tiny wholes free of glass. Maybe I should replace my all my commercial mugs next.

And I made this peacock decorated glaze bowl for me to go with the 4 bowls I made earlier this year. Yes, I can claim it even though I know I could sell it🤗

Sometimes I just make functional ceramics for myself and sometimes for others. This time I was trying to replace a Corning casserole dish that got broken and a friend saw an unfinished piece on my shelf. Good thing I made 2, cause the first pic has a small S crack.

Very pleased how these pasta bowls turned out again. Custom orders do stress me out a little. Which makes the results are even more satisfying to me. #pastabowls #wheelthrowingpottery #peacockglazingtechnique

And now some testing of Mayco glazes on this closed form little jar. I don’t use test tiles because I don’t want a collection of dust catchers around.

So I learned to make my first (and maybe only) pumpkin. And I had to make it functional for a tea light. It’s unusual for me to make seasonal decorative items, but this one was fun. Working with super specked clay is a new thing for me too.

I’m gonna do something different here… SCAD annual sidewalk chalk art showcases amazing artistic talent. So no pottery pics, just a few examples of my favorite chalk art.

Got so tied up line dancing for #savannahbanananans that my greenware is stacking up. Here’s the my latest commissioned piece freshly carved. It’s a tribute to Nigerian potter Ladi Kwali 1925-1984.

After several days of glazing where brushing is slow and tedious, today was my break to watch the sun.

And one peacock bowl in the making to be true the hashtags😁

When I look back at my journey in clay, it’s a reminder to push through the cracks, flops, glaze misfits. Learning something new is all the inspiration I need.
How do you stay inspired?
Here are the only sculptural pieces I’ve ever made.

I’m hooked on making stacking spice jars. Decorating is fun, especially when I trail a design vertically for the best alignment. And remember not to glaze where each jar fits together so they don’t slip and slide.
