Book #68: Royal City

Jeff Lemire strikes again with an emotional, haunting, story of family, regret, and loss. There’s something about Lemire’s storytelling that just clicks with me. It’s bittersweet and honest. I wish there were more stories like that.

Book #67: Absolute Martian Manhunter
Volume 1: Martian Vision

What psychedelic genius brilliance did I just read? I think I’d need to reread this 2 or 3 times to fully appreciate it but this was a mind-melting delight. Gorgeous colours and art, and truly captivating storytelling

Book #66: Batman: The Cult

Dark, gritty, brooding… and oddly topical. I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy this one right off the bat (no pun intended), but it grew on me a lot after the first issue. The writing here is a highlight. Deacon Blackfire is a very intriguing villain.

Book #65: Titans: Beast World

I loved this! So much fun! I need to read more Titans (Teen or otherwise)!

Book #64: Batman: The Three Jokers

Holy shit. This was incredible. Three Jokers, three times the madness. With *incredible* writing and artwork from Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok, I flew through this.

Book #63: Titans
Vol. 1: Out of the Shadows

Enjoyed the hell out of this. It’s hopeful and charming with great, likeable, characters. Looking forward to reading more!

Book #62: Robins: Being Robin

Unfortunately, this didn’t work for me much at all. The story is scattered, the artwork is lacking, and the villain is under-utilized.

Book #61: Predator versus Spider-Man

This was a lot of fun. A violent, blood spilled, battle. It’s not long, and the story is rather simple. But I think that’s kind of exactly what I wanted from this. This would make a fun animated movie in the same vein as the DC animated films

Book #60: Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter

I really wasn’t expecting to like this as much as the main DKoS series but holy hell, was I ever wrong! Great characters, beautiful artwork, and a fast paced and exciting story. Really great book!

Book #59: Batman: Full Moon

Batman vs. a werewolf? Cool idea. The story here is a bit on the simple side but the dark (-er thank usual) atmosphere and shadowy art style make this book a nice addition to the Halloween season.

Book #58: Daytripper

A beautiful, sobering, look at our own mortality. This book is gorgeous.

!!!
A multi-part animated adaptation of ‘BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL’ is in the works.

Part 1 will release in 2026.

Book #57: Batman by Scott Snyder
Omnibus Volume 2

This was excellent. Engaging storytelling throughout. The highlight for me was the Superheavy arc that introduces a chilling new villain, with an almost Gerald Scarfe-esque character design.

Book #56: The Gulf

This coming-of-age story about three teens running away to join a commune was a breath of fresh air. It’s steeped in teenage angst and the familiar longing for a more simple existence. The characters and dialogue are wonderful.

Book #55: Batman: The Man Who Laughs

This was great. A nice follow up to The Killing Joke, though it’s probably not meant to be a follow up. The accompanying story in this book, Made of Wood, was also an excellent Batman detective story.

Book #54: Saga
Compendium One

I mean… what can I even say? This space trotting adventure is funny, exciting, sexy, poignant, heartbreaking, important etc etc etc. I think this accomplishes what a lot of books try to. Simply wonderful.

Book #53: Tim Drake: Robin
Volume 2: A Case of Chaos

While this volume does away with the less than spectacular artwork of the first volume, the story doesn’t quite live up to what came before. It’s still a decent, hopeful story, but it somehow feels rushed.

Book #52: Tim Drake: Robin
Volume 1: Mystery at the Marina

I wasn’t expecting to like this at all given the online response I’ve seen. But, aside from the character designs that I’m not a fan of at all, I found the story fun and engaging. I like the hopefulness of it.

Book #51: Batman: Year Three

This serves as a well done follow up to Death in the Family but, as a Dick Grayson Robin origin story, you can probably find better elsewhere. An enjoyable read but nothing too special.

Book #50: Locke & Key
Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft

Immediately loved this upon starting it. Spooky, violent, intriguing with a ton of atmosphere. This did an excellent job of introducing the characters and immediately making me want to know what happens to them.

Book #49: Spider-Man: Blue

This was everything I wanted it to be. While Peter Parker reflects on the loss of Gwen Stacy and processes his grief, the story of the early days of he, Gwen and MJ is recounted. Great storytelling: what I’ve come to expect from a Loeb and Sale book.

Book #48: Alien: Black, White & Blood

This gory anthology of sorts brings the familiar franchise themes of corporate corruption and greed… and lots and lots of bloodshed. Did it all work for me? No. But still a decent read for a fan of the movies.
