Here's a fantastic Ron Wilson FF page, inked by Joe Sinnott.

For Black History month a lot of folks are celebrating the work of black comics creators. Two of my favorites are Keith Pollard and Ron Wilson, who did fantastic work. Basically I wanted to be these guys, working in the classic Marvel style in the Kirby/Buscema tradition. So much great comics art.

Got my comp of SNAFU:Contagion today. That makes 7 appearances in the series so far. The last two had Sir Gawain stories and the third Gawain yarn published is in CASTLE OF HORROR vol 12.

What it feels like digging through all these old paperbacks.

Digging through Conan pastiches this morning. Just a small sampling. Bloody things are everywhere on my shelves.

Currently reading. I've mentioned I enjoy a lot of the de Camp/Carter Conan stories. I don't care for the unnecessary rewrites and edits of REH in the short story collections, but the original yarns tend to be a lot of fun. Sprague's knowledge of history worked well with Lin's headlong writing.

Writing an action scene set in the 1300s this morning and for a few paragraphs I had to read two articles, watch three videos, and find an account of the weapons and armor of John Hawkwood's White Company circa 1361. Very little of that actually made it into the writing, but I had to know it.

Barry Windsor Smith art for the Avengers. Even when doing superheroes his pre-Raphaelite sensibilities were showing. Look at the grass and the trees, and look at the Hulk in the background, dappled by shadows.

I've got a real weakness for these paintings of Gothic collonade/potico/cloisters. This one's by Louis Daguerre, from the 1820s.

@briankeene.bsky.social I have an Alex McVey original as well (saw yours on your Patreon) Alex sent this to Jim, but because Blind Shadows was my first novel, Jim gave it to me. He was like that, as you know.

2/2 In the CAS story the heroes vist the city of Zul-Bha-Sair, which is the setting of my favorite CAS story, THE CHARNEL GOD, so I had to reread that. Now I've gone down a CAS rabbit hole, because me.

Nice @danbrereton.bsky.social cover on that Conan comic too.

1/2 How these things happen. I'd been reminded that Roy Thomas's story in the final issue of CONAN THE SAVAGE was 'freely adapted' from Clark Ashton Smith's story NECROMANCY IN NAAT, so I read the story and read the comic.

Dayum, That is one awesome Conan illo by Rob De La Torre. Well done, sir.

After Marvel Comics cancelled THE SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN, they did come back with another Black & White, magazine-sized Conan book, CONAN THE SAVAGE. It only ran 10 issues, and as far as I know hasn't been reprinted. I have the run, but it would be nice to get a trade with all this material.
