living in a dark sky park with very low levels of light pollutions means we’re lucky enough to be able to capture images like these in our own back garden! just one small reason to protect and preserve our dark skies ✨

I hosted some focus groups last year on Mars colonisation and made some space cakes to stay on theme! My friend bought the space tiramisu - I’ll never make a non-space tiramisu again 🤩✨🪐

Absolutely beautiful Aurora in Northumberland tonight! Get your warm clothes on and head outside to somewhere dark if you can!

#BringBackTheStars by being Night Sky Conscious - By having all outdoor lighting be Amber (3,000 Kelvin or less), Shielded (hood so light only points down), and on a Timer/Motion Sensor. If everyone did this, we would all see the stars! It is that easy!

I’ve been having the discussion with friends and I thought I’d bring it here:

Do you think of the Moon as a being?

Personally I do, we anthropomorphise the earth so why would the Moon be different?

Space law sounds like a futuristic idea but acting now is so important.
As more satellites are launched everyday, we must consider: our atmosphere (toxic fumes on re-entry), ground-based astronomy, future missions and life on 🌎

Space law can help prevent irreversible damage, but we must act soon 🛰️

A lovely night at the observatory! 🔭 Pleiades will always be my favourite naked-eye/binocular object, but we had great fun exploring Orion’s Nebula and Jupiter through the telescope and, as always, the Moon!

🔭 I developed a case of aperture fever and bought a Celestron Origin smart telescope. Here are some images from last night, my first night out with it: the Andromeda Galaxy, the Pleiades, the Horsehead Nebula and M33, the Pinwheel Galaxy.

If you applied for Mars One, the Mars settlement project, saw it on the news in 2012 or have never heard of it but think about life on Mars, then this might be something for you to watch! An animation envisioning how things would have turned out for the ‘first martians’ youtu.be/C-q8A5Xc7Ls?...
